The Berger crash shows how long we've come in terms of layout and speed. Nowadays, you touch that wall, you end up 30 meters further down the road with a sizeable impact.

Incidentally Is there a reason there is so many of them, instead of just one channel with all the videos on?

I can only find videos on YT by using the search filters. Searching either by least popular or most recent results usually brings some gems, especially if you're looking for fan videos recorded at the weekend's racing events

Yes. If one channels gets banned due to copyrights, at least other channels will remain. So better have stuff divided on multiple channels, so I don't have to upload 50000 videos again.

Also I hate how YouTube bulk upload sucks these days. Years ago you could upload up to 50 clips simultanously and it worked perfectly. Nowadays you have to publish them individually. Maybe in the future I will upload my collection on Archive.org.
I also hope there's a full backup of DarcyF1. If that site goes down...it's a catastrophe. 8O

Do you have Michael Schumachers practice crashes at Imola in 1992 or 1995? The 1992 one he dropped it on the exit of Tosa and I believe the 95 one was in the same spot but the wheel and suspension actually came off and hit him in the helmet.

I have searched forever for these but haven't been able to find them. I did come across this gem though. The warm up for Imola 95. It would have been red flagged for sure nowdays.

I don't know if any channel had FP coverage in 1995. There's some practice footage from Eurosport from 1992, but since there's no video, maybe they didn't show that particular session.

Again, I wish I could dig FOM's archive. But given that pre-2007 broadcasts were done by local TV channels, it's unlikely those practice session tapes exist anymore.

In 1996 at least selected rounds must have had full coverage, as there exist torrents for FP1 through FP4 for 1996 season. But none for 1995. So I think they only showed highlights before the qualifying sessions, as well as in 1994.
I'm no expert of course, since I didn't watch F1 back then.

other good thing about it was when a driver conked out and managed to screw the next driver attempt. On that cascade many slower cars managed to start ahead better than expected

Understand it wasn't great for people at the track because of limited cars on track, but I loved the spectacle.

After years of searching I finally found the 1995 Schumacher crash @3:20. And it was on a bloody BBC race recap with Murray Walker!



And the 1992 crash was on some old crash comp video that had the old school Eurosport graphics 'Friday Practice Michael Schumacher' as he dropped it into the wall on the exit of Tosa.

But I finally found one of them.

That Schumacher 1995 crash is very famous but you guys confused me. It's not at Variante Alta and not at Tosa, it's at Piratella, the fast left hander before Acque Minerali :lol:

: I loved the format because you could see all drivers, instead of just the pole contenders. But it didn't live up to the hype, we expected a lot more crashing and grid randomness.

I think in this era it would work better. Back then, the worst that could happen to a top team is starting 3rd or 4th, and they had enough laptime gap in reserve so they just took it relatively safe. And refuelling strategy, etc.. to help in the race.
Nowadays, it would be a cut-throat exercise where 0.4s means starting mid-pack around very competitive drivers and killing your week-end. It would be worth trying again. Say at the same week-end as a Sprint Race, so that the inevitable outrage it will cause remains limited in time and drowned into the pre-existing Sprint race whining.

single lap qualifying is one of my favorites either, mostly because you have only one chance

plus, it doesn't have that idiocy of drivers going slowly before a fast lap
