another sprint race weekend that nothing will happen

Truly wonderful to have Imola back not as a mere backup track but as a proper Grand Prix weekend. The two COVID-races here were great, and now that we have the Tifosi back, Ferrari winning and F3, F2 and Porsches filling the schedule, the atmosphere is going to be like it was in Schumi's heyday 20 years ago.

But the Sprint...*sigh*
The only positive thing I can think of is that normally if we have a wet Friday, we get barely any running during practice sessions, but when qualifying is on Friday, they cannot opt out practice either. And it seems Friday will be the only day with risk of rain, so...nonetheless, I'm against all sort of gimmicks.

High chance of chuva, especially on Friday.

funny that rain during qualifying is the best chance to scramble the grid for the sprint. Given this track doesn't favor overtaking

Ok, so seeing the changes on Melbourne circuit and the latest tracks such as SA or Las Vegas, they could rehabilitate the Tamburello run up to Tosa within the same safety standards.

Perhaps even get rid or the chicane at the top. Turn this into a terrifying, smooth, old-school loop with no chicanes and mad flow.

We haven't really seen anything of the new cars in the wet

I'd wager we had something crazy like an alpine-haas-Aston Martin top 3 as usually the slow cars in dry become ok enough in the wet for their drivers to launch a bid for pole

best chance is for the rain to increase after 5 minutes of Q1 but not at the point of a red flag, then in the final 3 minutes track starts improving and drivers in good cars start losing time on traffic or overcooking

Really good point actually. Porpoising on a very wet track means aquaplaning, will be interesting to see how they deal with it

Doubt it - historically the wet tyres have raised the ride heights of the car. Ground effects will be lowered if that's the case.

Reminder for everyone that hates the sprint races. Get your voice heard by using your remote. Do not tune in to watch the sprint race.

First chicane could be replaced with a single corner, then a run down to Tosa without the Villeneuve chicane. It would make for better passing chances.

Is this the longest grand prix name in history?

"Rolex Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell'Emilia Romagna 2022"

What next? "Thirsty Camel Bottle Shops Presents the Australian Grand Prix of Australasia by Bob Jane Tyres?"

I also hate that we have Mexican GP and Mexico City GP (and Brazilian GP and São Paulo GP) as separated events.

Christ, Monaco Grand Prix has been called
Code:
    1950, 1956–1959, 1961, 1964–1965, 1973–1974: Grand Prix Automobile
    1955: Grand Prix d'Europe Automobile
    1960, 1962: Grand Prix
    1963: Gd Prix d'Europe
1966–1968: Grand Prix Automobile de Monaco
    1969–1971, 1975: Monaco
    1972, 1976–1986: Grand Prix Monaco
1987–2019, 2021: Grand Prix de Monaco

I think we should therefore say there has been 8 different events in Monaco.

the FIA would award the moniker European GP to one european round each season

1950: The royal automobile club Grand Prix of Europe incorporating The British Grand Prix at Silverstone
1951: Grand Prix de l'Automobile Club de France (the legal French GP name for years) at Reims
1952: Belgian Grand Prix at Spa
1953: no race had European GP
1954: German Grand Prix at Nurburgring
1955: Monaco Grand Prix
1956: Italian Grand Prix at Monza
1957: Grand Prix d'Europe incorporating the 10th RAC British Grand Prix at Aintree
1958: Belgian Grand Prix at Spa
1959: Grand Prix de l'ACF at Reims
1960: 20th European GP and 31st Italian GP at Monza
1961: German GP at Nurburgring (also the 100th GP)
1962: Dutch GP at Zandvoort
1963: Monaco GP
1964: British GP at Brands Hatch
1965: Belgian GP at Spa
1966: Grand Prix de l'ACF at Reims
1967: Italian GP at Monza
1968: German Grand Prix at Nurburgring
1972: British GP at Brands Hatch
1973: Belgian GP at Zolder
1974: German GP at Nurburgring
1975: Austrian GP at Österreichring
1976: Dutch GP at Zandvoort
1977: British GP at Silverstone

after that the name reappeared in 1983 for a race in Brands Hatch and would go for rounds at the Nurburgring, Donington Park, Jerez, Valencia and Baku. In the end there were 57 European GPs

Dolmio's "Spagetti, it's what's for dinner" Emilia Romagna Formula 1 San Marino, really it's in Italy but we just want to pretend it isn't for legal reasons Grand Prix

Lets just hope they don't go full NASCAR with race names like "Buckle Up in Your Truck 225" or "Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen"

We had a "Gran Premio Cinzano di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini" (i.e. Misano), but that was MotoGP.

And "made in Italy" sponsored by Rolex. Well, something doesn't add up. :D
