the bureaucrats from Emilia Romagna wanted to put the name of the province to promote their cheese

So, there are some tweaks to the Sprint Race.

For the record, the pole-position will be the fastest driver on Friday instead of the Sprint Race winner.

And the most relevant one: this year the top-8 finishers of the Sprint Race will be awarded Championship points.

Well that's one good thing,......having someone fastest on Friday and then the media hand wringing calling them "well that's pole pos....errr...1st on the grid for the sprint for Bottas" etc was getting annoying

Also whatever you think about the sprint, Friday evening qualifying is pretty cool and stretches the weekend coverage across 3 days instead of 2 (if you're not paying for Sky, that is) just like 2003, which I always liked

Friday morning looks very wet. Some support series might have sessions cancelled. But it seems rain will stop before QLF, so there should be no delays or such.
Saturday dry.
Sunday still something of a question mark. Maybe some showers, but probably during F3 race.

Models look increasingly interesting this weekend.
Showery Sunday so I expect rain clouds in the vicinity never hitting the circuit.

Friday looking nasty, the system moving in could wash out the entire Friday if its timing is right.
Weather warnings are in effect for the area from Thursday to Friday morning for excessive rainfall.

We know what happened to Hockenheim after all those wet races :p

Racing in the rain is dangerous, and should be banned before someone gets hurt or property gets damaged while racing a car at speed around a circuit

Actually racing with more than 20kph is dangerous, and should be banned before someone gets hurt or property gets damaged while racing a car at speed around a circuit.

I think I got too sensitive to overly worried "racing fans" since that one time someone here genuinely thought the isle of man TT should be banned forever because it's dangerous.

As long as people are voluntarily willing to take a risk, it's up to them, and I'm not deciding on their behalf and nor should anyone else.

So if a bunch of amateur drivers self-organize a race at the Old Monza Oval where they race with 1950s cars, so be it. Of course someone will be liable when 5 drivers die in a fiery pileup, but you know, they probably knew it would happen and still took the risk. It's no different than being killed in an avalanche while climbing Mount Everest. The worst can happen, or it might not.

racing in the wet would be less dangerous if they at least tried and worked out to make the cars run without issues

If the fastest way destroys your car, you can continue and risk it, or go slower.

But knowing F1, kerbs will probably be changed overnight.

Edit: ah I thought I read it here, but appearantly not. So, Imola has higher kerbs than the previous 3 tracks, and F1 is worried that the kerbs will damage the 2022 floors when taken at full speed.

There was an artificially wet test session for a half a day in Barcelona wasn't it?

Practice is going to be a washout if it keeps raining at the same pace.

They still got Friday practice then though didn't they? Has there ever been a quali session with no practice beforehand?

There were barely any laps. Someone like Felipe Massa didn't do a single flying lap until Q1 on Sunday morning :8:
