I wasn't expecting that race again that quickly. I just hope that they will not end in the sand somewhere (F2 or F1)

Last year during the Formula E event there were missiles flying over the track just after the race, but the anti-missile system worked out to prevent an actual attack

Feels weird to have another race in Saudi Arabia within a few months.

Still think a serious accident is waiting to happen (last year's F2 start crash could have happened anywhere, so it not the track's fault). They haven't addressed the problem regarding the speed difference of cars doing a hot lap and those doing their out lap or cool-down lap. We haven't seen modern F1 cars going into the catch fence, so it's difficult to predict how it will end. Well, let's hope for the best.

Since the track is so fast, I expect Ferrari engine teams be once again strong. Another good weekend for Haas and Alfa Romeo? We'll see. Last year all focus was given to Verstappen-Hamilton battle (rightfully so), meaning that we missed all racing behind them. Luckily the WDC fight is not important yet, so hopefully we see more coverage from mid-field.

Where they write "threat", I only read "just retribution", for droning Yemeni kids so hard they became afraid of sunny skies.

But the track is cool so I won't hide my hypocrisy and selective outrage. I can't wait for on-track action, qualy last year was intense, and so was the race.

Someone on Atlas has pointed out that this is the fifth consecutive F1 race to be held in the desert under floodlights.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Good, get them over with already.

if those races were run as the parallel "Formula One Middle East Night Championship", only Hamilton and Verstappen would be in contention for the title, given aggregate results for the past 4 races, as seen in this spreadsheet

Lol. It's very likely that by 2030 the highest motorsport category is "Formula E Middle East Night World Championship", with a few flyaway races in Soviet-Europe and the Chinese Empire.

The problem is that we then move onto the American carparks under floodlights.

Yeah, this still seems like an inappropriate track tbh. IIRC they have moved some walls to improve sightlines, but this will also increase speeds through those corners.

Come to think of it, have we *ever* seen an F1 car go into a fence? I'm not sure Barrichello at Imola counts.

Villeneuve, Melbourne '01 counts right?

I think that's the only one with footage.

For unseen accidents, I think Pedro Lamy's Silvestone testing crash in 1994 counts.

There are probably other testing accidents which are either forgotten or don't have enough details to know what happened.

And of course there's the fatal accident of Gilles Villeneuve...

I feel that this page has minor manifestations of Europe's deepest fears these days: a pathological, paralysing rejection of Death; and a deep dread of losing significance on the world stage.

For the record, I don't have any issue with grand prix being held outside of Europe, I just wish the surroundings would be slightly more aesthetic than a sea of either sand or tarmac, all of it in the dark.

I'd be up for a F1 winter series on the middle east, as long they run older cars leveled up by a BoP and use upcoming talented drivers and other ones from other series like MotoGP, rallying or IndyCar

I personally love the setting of Bahrain at least, the lights in the desert night, idk but I get Arabian nights vibes
