The final chapter in the war between Hamilton and Verstappen was about to come to a close in favor of the brit... That until a late crash involving Latifi, questionable calls from race direction and a late pass in a final lap shootout changed the outcome of the championship

Last year me would've never said this:

I really hope LH can keep his record of winning in every season he has raced in F1.

Also, according to the results i've seen, could be his first winless season in car racing since 2001, which was the 4-races long Formula Renault UK Winter Series.

I hope Hamilton doesn't win, so we no longer have to see that stat coming up every 2 weeks.

Least anticipated race of the year. I'll watch it though because I watch every race, but let's get it over with quickly.

Really the only reason to watch this. Hopefully there's some nice pre-race ceremony for him.

I hate this event just like everyone, but here are some fun thoughts, in no particular order of likelihood:

Max inadvertently crashes Perez out of 2nd overall position contention

Alpine drivers collide out, lose spot to McLaren in overall standings

Ferrari strategy-clowns themselves out of 2nd place in constructors

Ricciardo crashes into whoever is this week-end's hero

I'd say this race is a preview for next season. Mercedes doing another great race, Red Bull having trouble with tires and Ferrari doing another clownshow

Probably the last race for Ricciardo even though I live in hope he'll find his way back at some point. Yes he's been terrible this year but the sport will miss him and Vettel next year when all we have is 19 PR bots and 1 Alonso.

The biggest pleasure this year regarding this track is that they paid a fuckton of money to be the last race and its basically a demo-run since both titles have long been decided

one of the most interesting stat regarding this race is that only 2nd time in history that a F1 race and a World Cup opening will be held at the same day (first time was 1982 Canadian GP held at the same day as Argentina x Belgium at Barcelona)

Also interesting to point that this GP will be the closest to be held to a World Cup opening venue (as the closest date from the opening match), the previous ones were:

1950: Belgian GP at Spa/Brazil 4x0 Mexico at Maracanã (Rio de Janeiro) [9.475km]

1954: Belgian GP at Spa/Brazil 5x0 Mexico at Charmilles (Geneva) [474km] or Yugoslavia 1x0 France at Olympique de la Pontaise (Lausanne) [437km] or Uruguay 2x0 Czechoslovakia at Wankdorf (Bern) [402km] or Austria 1x0 Scotland at Hardturm (Zürich) [386km]

1958: Belgian GP at Spa/Argentina 1x3 West Germany at Malmö [739km] or N. Ireland 1x0 Czechoslovakia at Örjans Vall (Halmstad) [829km] or France 7x3 Paraguay at Idrottsparken (Norrköping) [1.116km] or Yugoslavia 1x1 Scotland at Arosvallen (Västerås) [1.219km] or Sweden 3x0 Mexico at Råsunda (Stockholm) [1.252km] or Hungary 1x1 Wales at Jernvallen (Sandviken) [1.315km]

1962: Monaco GP/Uruguay 2x1 Colombia at Estadio Carlos Dittborn (Arica) [10.476km] or Chile 3x1 Switzerland at Estadio Nacional (Santiago) [11.658km] or Brazil 2x0 Mexico at Estadio Sausalito (Viña del Mar) [11.687km] or Argentina 1x0 Bulgaria at Estadio El Teniente (Rancagua) [11.720km]

1966: French GP at Reims-Gueux/England 1x1 Uruguay at Wembley [393km]

1970: Belgian GP at Spa/Mexico 0x0 USSR at Estadio Azteca (Mexico City) [9.380km]

1974: Swedish GP at Anderstorp/Brazil 0x0 Yugoslavia at Waldstadion (Frankfurt) [863km]

1978: Spanish GP at Jarama/West Germany 0x0 Poland at Estadio Monumental (Buenos Aires) [10.065km]

1982: Canadian GP at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve/Argentina 0x1 Belgium at Camp Nou (Barcelona) [5.890km]

1986: Belgian GP at Spa/Bulgaria 1x1 Italy at Estadio Azteca (Mexico City) [9.380km]

1990: Canadian GP at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve/Argentina 0x1 Cameroon at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza/San Siro (Milan) [6.130km]

1994: Canadian GP at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve/Germany 1x0 Bolivia at Soldier Field (Chicago) [1.240km]

1998: Canadian GP at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve/Brazil 2x1 Scotland at Stade de France [5.500km]

2002: Monaco GP/France 0x1 Senegal at Seoul World Cup Stadium [9.114km]

2006: British GP at Silverstone/Germany 4x2 Costa Rica at Allianz Arena (Munich) [996km]

2010: Canadian GP at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve/South Africa 1x1 Mexico at Soccer City (Johannesburg) [13.000km]

2014: Canadian GP at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve/Brazil 3x1 Croatia at Arena Corinthians (São Paulo) [8.150km]

2018: Canadian GP at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve/Russia 5x0 Saudi Arabia at Luzhniki (Moscow) [7.050km]

2022: Abu Dhabi GP at Yas Marina/Qatar x Ecuador at Al Bayt (Al Khor) [340km]

*1954, 1958 and 1962 had opening matches starting at the same time.

Interesting to see that botch WC at Mexico matched their openings with Belgian GP

and given that no one cares for racing at Abu Dhabi and that sportswashing event at Qatar but here it is ~~STATS~~

The F2 races this weekend have more implications to F1 than the F1 race itself.

that was a mistake, it was supposed to be John Newhouse

perhaps they should make the F2 events the main event of the weekend instead of F1

Edit: In fact, he appeared in two games! I guess the change from Driverone to Driver is the same as Juan Pablo becoming simply Juan
