Didn't read the whole article...I would expect De Vries to be expected as a potential stand-in for Singapore?

This kind of situations would be the only way Nick gets another drive this year. I see Williams honoring Latifi's contract this season.

Is Nick the reserve driver for all Mercedes-powered teams?

I was about to say they still has Señor Oops on their roster but his superlicense expired a while ago

Frederik Vesti is about to reach superlicence but he needs to outscore Fittipaldi and Lawson at the final races

Depends on how Albon recovers. Appendix removals usually don't require major post-op as long as they didn't rupture but those respiratory issues sound like they may make a difference.

Scary experience for Albon. Overall, about 1 person dies for every 100000 general anaesthetics given, so it's always a risk to go through a surgery. But there's no really option when it's your appendix.

I'd imagine that has a lot to do with him being thrown in with only 1 practice session to dial in the car and a lot of it still being set up for Albon tbh

Plus you never know with Singapore, it runs longer but there's a hell of a lot of a higher chance of multiple safety cars which can make it less of a driving challenge.
No real fast corners either so that also helps

I had my appendix out when I was younger, I wouldn't want to be driving 2 weeks after the operation if it was me.... :o

We've heard this from countless drivers, that there's gym-ready shape and then there's race-ready shape. You can spend all the time in the world at the gym but your muscles still won't be trained as well as getting actual track time. So I don't see his fitness magically changing in 3 weeks time unfortunately. Singapore's definitely going to be a tough challenge for him with the duration, high heat/humidity and a billion corners to contend with.

Sounds like Albon had an allergic reaction to the anaesthesia, my cousin had the same reaction when the hospital gave her the wrong one, only problem is you don’t know you’re allergic until you have the reaction.

When I looked at the parts changed in parc ferme, de Vries had seatbelt shoulder straps among them. I think it's possible that he seatbelts were designed for Albon and they were just uncomfortable for de Vries.

De Vries is a short guy, about 20 cm shorter than Albon. I would think that would give less issues than a tall guy having to take a seat suited for Tsunoda types.

De Vries has the same height as I do, perfectly suitable to race in F1

When I used to do some karting I also had issues fitting in the seat, as my lean build made me get loose at every corner and several bruises after 30 minutes

I'd love to go again, but that's still a lot of money. Think I paid €80 for general admission on Saturday and €400 for a Sunday ticket at the swimming pool grandstand (which was one of the most expensive seats). This was 14 years ago, however.

What are the prices like at Zandvoort? That would be easy for me to get to via a ferry. Austria or Monza would be nice to see one day as well.

Prices start at €220 for a 3-day general admission ticket, which actually gets you a pretty good view along the backside of the track. For grandstands in my opinion you'll need to look carefully where you'll be sitting as at some of them you only see very very little.

I do have to say the even has been very well organised, not a lot of queuing, easy to get to the track and everything. You will go nuts from the festival atmosphere if that's not your thing though. I know I prefer watching C1's race around Spa for 24 hours simply because it's quiet. But then again, that's not everyone's (or most) cup of tea!

Monza and Zandvoort seem like great places to go but not to watch F1. Motorsport is already a bad live spectator sport in most cases, add in flares and fanclubs bickering and I think I'd rather throw my money in the river.
