Ok I'm just repeating a post found on Reddit: Latifi has joined the tight club of backmarkers who sort of decided world championships in the final race, along with Timo Glock and Vitaly Petrov.

So, let's take out Masi's radio and the team principals messages. After all, they've only been broadcast for a few months. The race still feels weird but far less controversial.

Stewarding and driver/team radio comments have been more dicussed this year than actual actions, and fuel the worst animosity online.

I'm deeply convinced that these radios (and drivers' to some extent), interfere with our enjoyment and are here only to create the bread and butter of our times: engagement on social media. That's what generates money (even if tainted with negativity), not your positive enjoyment - as long as it's just enough to have you back watching the next race. They will keep walking this fine line and expect more of this forever and never coming back to appeased times of blissful viewer ignorance.

Part of me thinks it's totally wrong to broadcast such messages between race control and teams. Also, we're all judging Masi by a rule Whitting wasn't judged. We didn't hear teams talking to Charlie as it is happening right now.

However, another part of me really likes the spice these messages add to the show. It's just a matter of TV direction fine-tunning what should be aired and at what time. When team radios came up there was a time we all felt it was a bit oversharing and it definitely got improved.

Just realising that Mick (very) indirectly protected his father's record. Latifi blames his mistake on dirty air and dirty tyres from their previous battle

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Alonso...What a legend

Thanks for posting, that's bloody hilarious! But what I'm wondering is how this guy managed to get a 1440p quality from F1TV onboard? Mine comes through at 720p and blurry as heck :/

To those who say Hamilton was robbed today: the season had 22 races. Hamilton also lost the championship with his mistakes in Imola, Baku, by not pitting for dries in Hungary...
Hamilton was also lucky to have made it to the last race with a chance for the title, as many controversial events this season happened to benefit Hamilton.

Pure on race pace, seen over the entire season, Verstappen deserved it more. Mistakes made by Hamilton and Mercedes threw away their chances, controversial events and decisions made Hamilton stay in the running for longer than he should have. Yes, Verstappen had his fair share in causing controversies, but seen over the complete season, the balance favored Hamilton.

But Spa should have never counted as a result.

We just witnessed a peak season finale for any championship considered. In sports a championship may be decided by a single point, +/- or a goal etc. To have F1 decided on the last lap is pretty incredible.

I would argue the 2002 WSBK finale was the peak championship battle. 2 riders, essentially tied, 2 races to determine the Champion... And those two races were some of the most outstanding racing I have ever seen.

But, that said, for the season to come down to the last lap, that is indeed pretty incredible.

The race control decision making needs addressing though.

Interesting how there's been no posts by the official Mercedes socials with regards to the race result or congratulating Verstappen. I'm guessing they must've been instructed by Toto/management to avoid from doing so and appearing that they're conceding the WDC.

Even if they do lodge an appeal, the result will stand. The Stewards have already basically said that the Race Director can do whatever he wants. One rule over rides another etc.

Also one thing, why was a Red Flag sufficient in Baku and not here? Latiffi's car had more debris over the road than Max's, complete with fire extinguisher powder over the road.

The better driver over the season won, just in the wrong way. It is a shame that the ending will be remembered more than the whole season.

A red flag works have solved it all; both could change onto new tyres, race for 2-3 laps.

A red flag works have solved it all; both could change onto new tyres, race for 2-3 laps.

Red flags aren't decided based on racing spectacle reasons, but on safety. Baku red was thrown not just for debris, but to have all drivers change tyres, after a message from RB. Two drivers had crashed before from sudden failures at the fastest straight of the championship, it warranted a red a whole lot more than here for a clear mistake in a slow corner.

You can't guarantee "fairness" from tyre strategy all the time. That would be manipulation. The drivers had a fair chance at defending their position on track, and they did fight fairly. That Hamilton had older tyres, depended on other race circumstances leading to that moment.
