Let's not start the conspiracies, but if Ham wins the next one and Ver finishes second with fastest lap, the gap will be ONE POINT. What other seasons have a gap like that going into the last race?

1994 and 1997. This season could end like those ones too.

Now the Spa farce is coming to the fore. That will not only decide the title, but it also decides the tiebreaker.

Gap is now 8 points because Max already had fastest lap this race. If Max gets FL again, gap will be 2 points.

And you can say the same about the Silverstone farce.

ah yeah Silverstone, for that one to be equalized Hamilton has to have a dnf in one of those 2 races but it seems the glass car is the one Bottas is driving

At this stage I feel that those single points only matter when the championship contenders could end up anywhere in the field. In our case they are basically sharing 1-2s, and the rest of the field is often so laughably far (including their teammates) that it's really on who beats the other one to victory.

FL is still important, but Perez and Bottas are going to be the real key to this battle. They need to steal the win from the other team, and then the FL points will start to matter even more depending on the various podium combinations. It's unlikely, but imagine they pick the pace and spice it up front :8:

The best came scenario would be

If Bottas or Perez offers the title to Hamilton or Verstappen thanks to the fastest lap point, what happens if they lost the constructor championship because of that ? Better win the driver or constructor championship ? That would be so damn funny. Because Red-Bull & Mercedes can't afford to lost on track position for the constructor championship too.

You can offer a driver title to your teammate, but you can lost the constructor championship because of that. vice versa.

silverstone was equalized at brazil, the difference is that lewis was smart enough not to turn in :p

don´t forget that Hamilton had damaged his car in what would have been a sure dnf, but the red flag allowed him to have his car repaired without losing time or position. He should have retired, instead he got the win.

And I like that this season has several of these stories so far. I hate the bitching between Mercedes and Red Bull off track, but on track it has had all the drama we need.

F1's red flag rules are a farce...

A red flag also saved his Imola race.
He finished 2nd there but should have DNF'd of finish a lot lower.

Baku was a farce too. They discovered Hamilton's rear tyre was about to give. Had they not red-flagged the race, he might have crashed and possibly injured himself out of contention.

Bahrain was controversial too, Verstappen lost a lot of points in Hungary through no fault of his own, so add that all up and Verstappen was clearly the better driver/car combination of 2021 and could/should have been over 50 points ahead by now.

Hamilton lost many points because of his own or the team´s mistakes, and a proper amount of luck helped him to recover a lot of them.
And I´m not talking about the Russian GP kind of luck where the rain helped him, because he was in the position to benefit best from Norris´ decision.
I´m talking about Imola, Silverstone, in a way Budapest (but that race had too many what ifs), also in a way Azerbaijan.

I don´t think Verstappen lost many points because of mistakes. Where he didn´t win, he was 2nd. Where he dnf or lost points, at some races it is still open for debate if that was his own fault or not (Silverstone, Monza), at other races it was not his fault at all (Azerb, Budapest).

Hamilton wasn't always luck either, in 2016 he lost the championship by one single engine failure that denied him 25 guaranteed points

if that could happen again... :innocent:

IMHO:

Silverstone: 100% Lewis' fault but Max should have been smarter there. Would be looking at at least P2 and would now be cruising to the title.

Monza: 100% Max' fault but Lewis should have been smarter there. Could potentially have beaten Max there making the current gap smaller.
