If Perez and Bottas keep this up RBR can even clinch the WCC. Gap is now just 1 point

That would be icing on the cake of Max's well deserved 1st championship.

Too bad he didn't win in Azerbaijan but at least it was a non-score for Lewis there as well. :)

That pathetic red flag from Masi in Baku will be the key thing in the championship sadly.

If that race finished under yellow like it would have in years past then Hamilton would have finished 2nd. Because of red flag & the restart he finished 16th.

Because he failed to slow down at the first braking zone. His own mistake.

It wasn't the red flag per se, it was the stupid standing start. The worst rule I have seen in F1 since the 2003 wet tyre rule.

If Hamilton had not made his mistake under braking, he would have won. So in normal circumstances, Hamilton would have benefited from the red flag and people would have called that unfair too.

More than the crash in Silverstone, the first corner chaos in Budapest, or the crash in Monza?
In Monza they were both out, in the other two Hamilton benefited massively, without these situations Verstappen would have had 40-50 points advantage by now.

also that Belgium farce gave only half points. Had they raced on monday Max could had won and got away with full points

But then again, if they had cancelled the race and had not awarded points (which they should have), then Verstappen would now only be 14 points ahead.

Yes. If we exclude Monza, the two major losses on Max side were not of his own doing, while Hamilton's lost points were all either his own fault or strategy mistakes (Baku, Hungary, Turkey, Monaco...). Plus being quite lucky sometimes (Imola). Other regular races, were generally won on pure pace or racecraft or strategy by Verstappen and Red Bull.

In the end, driver with most points will win it (duh), but nobody in their right mind can complain Max is stealing this one. It would honestly be the best way to end Lewis' domination and you can feel that himself is acknowledging that.

Lewis also put a great fight agains Checo yesterday, not everyone is able to withstand that amount of pressure on worn tires for so much time without having an unforced error

Tsunoda screwing Red Bull a second time? Lewis will have slipstream on restart

I missed the start yesterday but my god is Tsunoda useless. Tags the LF of Ocon and says "Someone hit me from behind".

Surely there were better drivers in Japan to choose from? :slaphead:

That was on Schumacher any way. He chopped over on Ocon and forced the contact with Tsunoda.

From his point of view, he avoided a car on the left, his front end was clear, then his rear end got clipped. Calling that tagging someone else is a stretch

Nope, this ain't question of "if" since a different pattern was established under the previous Bernie regime. Either end the race under yellow (Canada 1999) or call it a race with the red flag (Brazil 2003).

Baku 2021 was a F1 version of green-white-checker which only came along with the Liberty ownership. It basically cost Hamilton 18 points. In 71 years of F1 history no race red-flagged with 3 laps remaining was restarted. This gimmick is all on Liberty Group.

If it was red flagged there was a possibility Max would have won it because they'd go back one lap (depending when the red flag would be dropped). :whistling:

And if the Stewarts used the same energy as they used in some other cases Lewis could be sitting out 1-2 races for Silverstone.

Its all a bunch of if's

In 1988 Prost scored more points than Senna, but the rule was that only the 11 best results counted so Senna was crowned champion. Weird? Yes. Undeserved? You might think that. But that was the rule at that time so argue all you want but it´s not going to help.
If the rule is now to red flag and restart the race, even with only 2 laps to go, then that is what counts.

It doesn't change the main point though, Liberty plays with a different set of rules and Hamilton lost 18 points compared to what would have happened under FOCA and their later iterations.
