For sure. He and Mercedes made so many errors this weekend and yet Ricciardo's dodgy pit stop set in motion a chain reaction that basically handed him the win, and Bottas, despite stinking up the entire race, managed to work his way through to 5th too! Another 15 points over Red Bull

And yes, I know Max limited the damage really well by coming through to 2nd from the back in a race you wouldn't have expected it, but you take points on the board at this point, because this is a wild season and there's more chaos to come

Lewis is right - he is #blessed. Gutted for Lando. McLaren needed to tell him there was more rain coming there. That was a magnificent first stint on the hards

Bottas was one of the first to pit for inters and got ahead of the train that was in front of him. And then the likes of Leclerc and Norris got out of his way by falling off the track.

Very good weekend for Max. Almost minimal points loss and Hamilton still needs to take a new engine.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

It's too bad Norris couldn't pull out the win today, but it looks like his rash immaturity has cost him a 2nd win this season...

After clearly overestimating worsening conditions in Spa costing himself a likely pole (and thus the automatic win on Sunday) and then today ignoring the team's advice even though they had a far better picture of the conditions.

I find amusing that even with no grip there was barely no crashes, mostly because of the car park nature of the track but even so, no one on the loose collecting other cars on braking spots

Hydraulic leak apparently. Saved Mazepin the embarrassment of being trounced by his teammate in front of his home crowd, as Schumacher was almost a second a lap quicker than him at that stage.

What advice though? If they had a better picture of the conditions they didn't let Lando know about it. Unless there's any radio messages I've missed or haven't heard, all they said to him was "How do you feel about inters?" and "Lewis has taken inters"... not particularly helpful

How is it his fault? The team didn't tell him the rain was going to get heavier. They were too busy track-watching and not looking at the radar. Lando can only make the decision based on the information available to him - at the rate of rain when Lewis came in, it seemed manageable, and there was still a fair chance of a safety car

Well, can't say whether Lando was given the correct advice during the final laps or not, only based on what TV showed. I guess the only way to find it out is rewatching the final laps with his radio on. But clearly Lando was more keen to focus himself on the track and not to hear his engineer on radio.

EDIT: Just saw a quote from Lando saying he wasn't told heavier rain was coming.

I wasn't able to watch the race live since I was attending a family meeting and only finished watching the replay. Wow. Norris will be kicking himself for missing out on the inters call. Since it's a no win situation for either team or driver I suppose the explanation will be murky at best. That's the downside of leading the race, by the time you realize you made the wrong call it's usually too late and those behind you will always profit.

I have to wonder what would have happened if Lando pitted. Would Lewis stay out to try and win? Things could have played out very differently.

This season is nuts and I love it. Throw every variable you can into a race and Lewis and Max still finish 1-2. This championship deserves to go down to the last race

I hate rain now.

It's nothing but trouble, either taking races away from us or robbing promising rookies of their first wins.

Lando's time will come, no doubt, he bossed the whole weekend like a pro, but to have that win taken away from him so close to the finish is massively cruel

Not great for the championship either, Max has worked through his penalty and managed 2nd, so that's a net win really as there's surely a similar engine penalty for Lewis coming within the next few races
Lewis really needed Max finishing 6th or lower to build a gap in the title race for when he has a reversed grid race.....

Also, let us not forget how bad that race and that track was before the rain
3 faster cars at the rear of the grid and still we either had no-one being able to overtake or boring DRS drive by passes. Man this is a terrible track

Make sure it rains again next year or don't bother watching :p

We know Sochi is such a terrible track, which is why Bottas is so good around it

Meh, he seriously couldn't be bothered today

Or Red Bull have decided to supplement his income...

Yeah, he was no where until the rain. Wasn't even going to score points.

Even before the rain, this was the best Sochi race ever. Battle for the lead between Sainz and Norris, Verstappen coming through the field, passing car after car where others couldn´t make a move. It had on track action and tactical suspense, with a threat of rain hanging over. And unlike usual, the rain actually came, mixing everything up again.

You can´t go wild over the Monza GP and then don´t like this race.

Even Valencia managed to produce one great race. Nevertheless, I'm not going to miss Sochi at all because Igora Drive can't possibly be worse. Oh, and I realize they won't race there until 2023.

at least for this track the solution is to make things harder for the best cars

Had Hamilton started from pole as predicted he could had a very easy one, even with rain
