Max can afford a retirement now and still keep the championship lead. Looking really good for him

I wonder how much of Lewis's contract decision is down to the high likelihood of getting the eighth championship this year.

I feel he would have retired if he won it this year.

I wonder how much the focus on 2021 will hurt Red Bull for 2022. I think Mercedes will switch focus before them.

Looks like when Hamilton doesn't have the superior car, he tends to do mistakes. He challenged Norris hard while Bottas left a gap. Even with that BS penalty for Norris, I think top4 would have been exactly like it is now. Lewis racecraft in the pack seems to be a bit rusty.m, he should be right there fighting with Max and not Mercedes customer teams.

Also it really shows Bottas is clear number two when team radio goes "you are free to race Lewis". So the standard is that he is not allowed to challenge him.

Silverstone should be better for Lewis, I expect it to be a nailbiter between Max and Lewis with drama.

Norris is getting better all the time. They should worry if McLaren makes a really good car next year.

Indeed, funny how they suddenly went from saying there's no rush to sign an extension, to scrambling to getting a deal signed when the championship started to slip out of their grasp...

Gravel did its job.

Honestly in this case, it could've flipped Vettel with Kimi's cockpit close by. This is not a good example for gravel over tarmac, even if you know my strong opinion in favor of gravel (and flips while we're at it).

Shows Mercedes are slipping back, Red Bull is pulling away and McLaren are closing in. Mercedes is doing something wrong, the other teams are progressing the pace of the car as normal through a season. But Mercedes usually comes out of the summer break strong, so all the lead Red Bull can build now they will need for the second half of the season. I expect Mercedes to close back up then.

I don't think it's possible for Mercedes to storm the second half of this season

1. The rules were writtten to hobble their high rake car design, the FIA clearly knew what they were doing in this regard and Mercedes are fighting with a car they know a lot less well than years previous with all the databanks they've built up being not as useful as they would normally be

2. Their resources have to be more focused on next year's car.

ATM they have clearly the 2nd fastest car and are only in danger of slipping back towards Mclaren rather than getting closer to red bull

great championship fight lol

And yet again they start handing out penalties for bulshit

Looks like fia stewards want to show up more than the drivers, just like football referees in football that start handing yellow cards just for the sake of it

Thinking about it...

That late race crash with Kimi and Seb would def been a full SC if not a modern day red flag and restart

Imagine how that would've changed.....well, not the lead battle, but yeah, most other things lol

Thinking about it, Norris probably stopped gaining on Bottas because even if he had passed him, he would have lost the place anyway unless he could pull out five seconds. I don't think that would have been possible.

Took only about half a decade from the FIA to do SOMETHING against one team domination.

And previous three it's been all about "Valtteri, it's James".

So I find it great that Wolff and his golden boi is struggling. Hopefully falling behind customer team isn't about trickery to change rules for the rest of the season that would hurt RBR.

I guess that by the swing of things any move by Norris could result in another penalty

Yes, it is finally great to see Mercedes getting their asses handed to them. Finally. They've had an easy go of it since 2014, more or less.
