Really looking forward to this one. One of the most entertaining starting laps on the entire calendar IMO. |

I love this track but always feel that it has the potential for a monster accident, or just lots of Safety Cars and stupidity (See the F2 races). Hopefully we get an eventful and safe race. |

Same. I'm always worried for the restarts here with that monster straight... |

It's similar track to Mugello in regards of timing line being after cars typically have long acceleration already. So leading driver can't floor it early. And as the rule is, once you've floored it, you can't back up anymore. That's what caused Matsushita to be banned for one event back in 2016 in GP2. |

I still think this rule needs changing to an Indycar style restart zone because not only is their danger but the leader weaving his car trying to dummy the car behind for about a minute down a long straight while the marshals are waving green flags to indicate it's fine to race again looks stupid, as much as anything else If I was the leader though I wouldn't be backing off so much, I'd gun it early, let the car behind get a good tow off me then laugh as they realise they can't pass until the start finish line and have to back off themselves. Even better if they fuck up and pass me and get a penalty. But yeah, this track has given us 2 crazy races and 2 dull ones, and even one of the crazy races was pretty dull until the SC came out So it seems it needs a SC to be somewhat interesting, but the action switch goes straight from "zzzzzzz" to "WTF HOLY SHIT" with nothing in between |

And if you defended the inside of T1, your exit would be compromised and they'd just have you into T2. |

Yeah but to double down on my point based on things I wish would happen in my head with no proof or science behind it, the car pushing from behind would be as close as an F1 car could get to a Bump draft like NASCAR, pushing it slightly away from the car behind And TBF the 2nd place car would be under attack from 3rd and it'd be like a giant BIG ONE in Turn 1. |

If all street circuits were like Baku, I wouldn't be against them. But usually they bear a resemblance to Sochi or Valencia (like future Miami track), which is why I strongly prefer traditional circuits. But yeah, Baku is good. My only real complaint is that the risk of rain is always 0%. Maybe they should try October slot, after Russian round, to allow less predictable conditions. They would need to bring the start time forward due to earlier sunset though. Definitely expecting better race than what we had in Monaco, at least in terms of overtaking. Nevertheless, there have Monegasque snoozers here, so one cannot have too high hopes. Anyway, three F2 races should provide plenty of action even if F1 doesn't. |

yeah, a crash in 18 & 19 would be bad. max speed, no visibility, and no runoff - could easily see what happened to hubert at spa happen there |

It's a SAFER barrier, so it will not catch and stop the car dead like in Hubert's crash. It would be like an oval crash, the car would slide along the wall and the others further behind would avoid it, or if they're too close they'd collide with lower speed differential. It's as blind and as dangerous as the tunnel at Monaco, maybe 30-40kph more speed but the track is wider and the turn is more forgiving for an F1 car's downforce. Those kind of turns are some of the rare spectacular places we still have left on F1 tracks, where you can fully appreciate the cars' speed and grip, in an ocean of soul-less empty wide turns devoid of any character on most other tracks on the calendar. They would be pointless if they were painted on the tarmac like at Paul Ricard. In other news, I found this funny picture: |

Don't like the track, the good races here even weren't that good. Just because it had lots of incidents doesn't make the racing good. Driving it in the games is also a chore, just plain boring to drive. Don't understand why the track is considered good. But I hope to be proven wrong and we get the first good race on this track this weekend. |

might have something to be with that turkish flag on the building. They're paying a homage by emulating Istanbul traffic Baku is one of those tracks they should try double file restarts to see how well F1 drivers will behave |

Scotty wrote: I'm always scared by turns 18-19, on F1 2019 I've had like 5-10 humungous crashes there, I know it's probably easier in an F1 car than a G29/simulator but a small failure or one guy not giving room could be catastrophic. They're already doing 280kmh through there. Agreed, a multi-car crash there could be catastrophic. T15 also scares me quite a bit here as the approach speed is really high and if the car were to lose it prior to the braking zone, there's little to no run-off (if you miss that escape road). |

This was one of the scariest moments (at 4:20). Magnussen either had zero awareness or chose to defend like a moron. |

Definitely both. Defending like a moron, having no awareness at just how much space he was giving. |
