I think qualifying will be exciting. It's such a short lap, so I don't think that Ferrari and McLaren will be more than a few tenths behind Mercedes or Red Bull. If Norris or LeClerc can pull out a perfect qualifying lap, they could be right up there. Neither of them would have the race pace, but with it being so difficult to overtake...
*Waits for Ham Ver Bot on Saturday afternoon*

The other alternative would be some rain. I was at Monaco in 2008 and the weather really spiced things up.

All the comments on F1's social media pages are from people saying that F1 shouldn't be here and that Monaco is a bore-fest. I personally couldn't imagine Monaco not being on the calendar. Yes, qualifying is often more exciting than the race, and sometimes there's no passing at all, but there's something special about these streets. I'm happy just watching the cars going around them inches from the wall. Maybe that's just me.

I'm totally with you. But also, I think people don't realize how absurdly long the cars have gotten. Shorter wheelbase would probably bring some more competitive excitement back to Monaco.

Monaco is like Suzuka. Races there always suck (at least 9 times out of 10), but nevertheless you can't help loving the tracks. They're both punishing and real testament to the drivers' skills. And Monaco, particularly, has a very special feeling. The yachts, Casino de Monte Carlo, those famous corners...the whole place is iconic.

Can't wait for the first Thursday session.

Monaco. The only race in a year that is allowed to be boring, only because of the scenery.

But I do hope we don't have another scenario where a slower driver is leading, and is being chased all race by someone who is clearly faster but can't pass because it is Monaco. And then everyone hails what a fantastic race the race winner did for keeping the other one behind him, when on any other track he wouldn't stand a chance.

FTFY.

There is no satisfaction and no excitement if you're looking for the perfect 10/10 battle. Every track and every race brings a specificity, and generates a different kind of entertainment. Barcelona was the suspense of whether the leader would be caught, even if the pass was going to be easy. Monaco's is trains of cars inches from each other, and sometimes mistakes from impatience and frustration. Take the best from each, and avoid the headache of the elusive perfect battle that happens once in a decade.

You summed up Riccardo with no MGU and Hamilton with tyres that were shot. Only at Monaco.

plus Vettel struggling with worn tires and opposition closing until Maldonado brought the red and made things easier for him

Max and Lewis crash into each other in such a way they both get a 4 race ban. Bottas wins Monaco + those 4 races en route to his first and only title.

The only way they both would get a 4 race ban is kinda running over Prince Albert's dog...well, replace the word 'kinda' with the word 'repeatedly' and the word 'dog' with 'son'. :whistling:

Perez would go on to win 3 out of those 4. The other one will be won by Norris

wElL aCtuALly...

Maldonado only squeezed Sutil who became a road-block which led to Alguersuari and Petrov plowing into Hamilton. Which led to the red and the BULLSHIT practice that you are allowed to change tires and repair significant damage under red. That ruined the finish, I'm still upset about that one.

After the restart it was Hamilton who ran over Maldonado. Hamilton was so shit in 2011, lol.

It was in 2013 when Chilton squeezed Maldonado at Tabac.

Lets not forget its run by Americans. Artificial entertainment is key. Having both Max and Lewis out for 4 races = more drivers into the title fight = more entertainment :whistling:

(/s just in case)

ah yeah 2011 Hamilton was a good thing for entertainment. Some journalists at the time claimed he wouldn't never win the championship again despite the raw talent

Imagine a Formula 1 season without Lewis and Max....

*pictures a happy scene where all drivers are holding hands in a circle, most of them winning a race in f1's most compettitive year yet*

*Shudders* urghhhhhhhh
