Couple of lads wandered around the abandoned Caterham (ex Super Aguri / Arrows) factory.

Oscar Piastri has been named the official reserve driver at Alpine. I assume he will move up to race seat whenever Alonso hangs 'em up?

Yeah, it would be great to see 22-24 cars on the grid once again. I understand costs are high but if Andretti or Audi/BMW joined with a totally new team it would only make F1 a better place. If they don't want to, probably Zoran Stefanovic would like to join :D

Gio is leaving Alfa at the end of the season. Zhou is all but confirmed now.

Not a massive surprise, but he seems fairly decent, so will be interesting to see how he goes!

Geeze Spy Gate 2007 has been the slow anaconda of death of McLaren. They just never recovered financially. Operationally they were exposed and just never really got it in order which was evident in the whole Honda debacle.

They seem to have turned it around a bit recently but the $100 million fine and the loss of that years constructors money has just very very slowly drip bleed them dry. COVID it seems has just been the final nail in the coffin.

Imagine how many Chinese pay drivers there would be without FIA superlicense 40-point rule. Though if that meant 2 or 3 more teams as well, I would take it over today's 10 teams.

I find it weird they didn't made a program to develop racing drivers like they are doing with football and olympic sports

specially now that China is the main focus of the auto industry

I feel like Gio was beginning to show some flashes of pace in the latter part of this season. Maybe too little, too late. However, I can't see Zhou being an improvement. His racing record is reasonable, but I don't remember him doing anything outstanding.

Drivers who take 3 years to have reasonable success in F2 like Zhou has, usually get found out in F1 pretty quickly. They're not beating their fellow F2 drivers on talent, they're beating them on experience. Jolyon Palmer springs to mind, Pastor Maldonado is another. There is plenty more too.

Gio deserved a spot, but it will be good to see if $50m of money will send Alfa up the grid.

Indeed. Mazepin will finally have the competition he's been craving for P20 thanks to Zhou.

So the FIA have finally released Max's onboard @7:53

And surprise surprise, he hardly turned the wheel at all. Red Bull will argue that he didn't open up the steering after turning in........the problem though? he just never steered to begin with.

This just highlights how woefully inept the FIA really are. But, but, but we didn't have the front facing onboard camera available, so we let it slide even though from the overhead camera it was plain as day that he never even tried to make the corner. Also Hamilton was significantly ahead of him before breaking. Almost an entire car length and he would have made the corner. Didn't look it from overhead.

I see Merc have appealed, and for clarity's sake, I actually agree. Usually I would just say that it was petty bullshit, but in this case I agree for future decisions going ahead. Could a retro active 5 second penalty be applied for the next race?

I think you just have to accept that this was handled differently because it was between the two championship leaders (and would have been the same had Lewis been the one opening ze leg). Had this been for 8th there may have been 5 sec penalties handed out. If you don't understand why stewards might be reluctant to get involved in the closest championship battle in over a decade unless they absolutely have to, I hate to break it to you but you might not be cut out for running a major sport.

Agree, a new nationality is always welcome. It's a WORLD championship and we don't have the largest country in the world represented. How fast he will be, of course nobody knows, but he is a dedicated driver who races clean and is worthy of being on the F1 grid, at least as much as Mick. I assume people are upset that he is sort of 'stealing' Piastri's spot in F1.

That is the most pathetic excuse imaginable.

if there wasn't tarmac on the runoff we wouldn't be talking about that so we know the real villain

If there wasn't tarmac he probably didn't make that move because of the obvious outcome.

where "he" can be applied to both.

And before some tiny red manchild comes crying about me being a fanboy: Max was a dick with that move and was beyond lucky to escape a penalty (for now). But I do think its fair to wonder if Lewis would have made that move if there wasn't tarmac and knowing how Max can cross lines.
