Valsechi is great; he has an amazing energy when commentating.

Yes. Dreadful music.

God I miss Davide. Alex Brundle is OK but he's so much better when he's talking about cars he's actually raced in. On the F2\F3 stuff he sounds like someone trying to mimic his dad in the late 90s.

I think given a bit more experience, Alex would make a brilliant commentator. It's a bit eerie just how much like his dad he sounds sometimes.

Also, and I might catch flack for this: Billy Monger is actually pretty good too. Not sure he'd be a good fit for F1, but the occasions I've heard him commentate I've been fairly impressed.

Agreed, he has natural enthusiasm. It's not forced like those who'd rather sound as that boring as that Portuguese guy.

I'm not sure why that would deserve flak, he shows promise considering he's the Max Verstappen of commentary, ie started it very young

Not quite sure why he and Webber were cock a hoop, batshit insane excited when Lewis went off at the restart at Baku, especially as Lewis has been quite nice to him and his career in the past.
Could've just been the heat of the moment, but he seemed too happy about it? :?

Speaking of Channel 4, someone pointed out Alex Jaques is a "question talker" and once you hear it, there's no un-hearing it
Every 2nd sentence from him is a "is he looking down the inside? Will he get through? Is there enough grip? any sign of a counter attack?" etc

Since Ben Edwards has retired (Why,....Ben, Whyyyy!) it seems there's a lot of commentators out there but no-one will become THE voice of the sport, not in this era, and despite whatever Crofty thinks :p

I think Brundle comes closest, having done it for 24 years now. Which is mental to think about. Still, as good as he is, he's not The Voice of F1; that's a crown I don't see anyone taking from Murray.

I always thought it was a shame Edwards never did F1. I loved him doing the CART commentary for Eurosport back in the 90s.

Have you been missing Channel 4 from 2012 to 2020? :p

TBH He did F1 for Eurosport from 1994-1996, F1 Digital in 2002, F1 in Cinema in 2007-2008 and Channel 4 from 2012 to 2020, he did a lot more F1 than people realise

For me, he was the greatest commentator since Murray, but even that era is over now :(

Ben Edwards did F1 for Eurosport in 1995-96. Allard Kalff was still in 1992-94.

We didn't get Eurosport until about 98, so missed his F1 stint then. Aware he did it, but it did kind of pass me by at the time unfortunately.

Yes I've mostly missed those years as well unfortunately. Stupid real life.

Eurosport International lost F1 rights after 1996 (I moved to watch on RTL, it was Heiko Wasser and Jochen Mass, Christian Danner replaced Mass after 1997 season).

I know the current crop of F1 commentators are pretty cringe at times, but be thankful it hasn't dropped to current NASCAR levels. F1 at least still places some value in defined play-by-play and colour commentary roles, and doesn't just hire 3 guys to out-shrill eachother while essentially narrating for the blind.

Di Resta is terrible. He makes one obvious error that DQ him from being a regular TV commentator - he tries to talk all the time. Not even two seconds of taking a break. I've actually listened to sporting events on radio in my lifetime and it's very easy to spot such an obvious flaw in live commentary. Button isn't Brundle but he's a lot better than Di Resta.

I haven't heard him, but from the description it sounds very much like he has studied Murray Walker (who, of course, started on radio) and is trying to do the same style. The problem is, it worked for Murray because he was so good at always giving information rather than filler.

Visited Exhibition of HSH The Prince of Monaco's Vintage Car Collection on Wednesday. Nice selection of old and not so old Formula 1 cars. Good show! :excited:

That looks cool. I'm going to the Silverstone museum tomorrow. For what it costs, it had better be good!

That's right.

(Not my picture).

It seems they rotate the exhibition cars regularly, as from photos I've seen Prost, BAR and Toyota being on display at some point.
