Yeah, just like "turn 2" at the RedBull Ring. Maybe it makes it easier for engineers and drivers to communicate precisely, but it's just silly for viewers

Edit: turns out this is the plan they currently have, they're testing it during at a couple of trackdays over the weekend. It can be optimised if they feel it's necessary after they've gathered data

Hold on a second, I thought the plan was just to increase the run-off on the left, where it narrowed and spat cars back on the track? They also plan to tighten the corner itself?

That’s what was announced at first, but apparently that’s not the case. Not sure if it’s because of the crashes we’ve seen this year, or that it’s a FIM requirement. I think the latter would be most likely.

They way they laid out this test it looks a lot more like it was years ago

I wouldn't mind if they tighten that corner. It's basically flat now.

Basically re-tightening the corner.

I don´t mind. Now it´s flat out for everyone, but it could make it a challenge again.

It's only easy flat because they can fully cut the bottom curb, and the top one. If the cars were constrained to the track, they'd have to turn-in more, then keep turning the right hander at the top instead of releasing early.

It seems this change would have a similar effect, so just giving it back its layout from the curb and gravel days - well, until they start cutting the top even more with the new run-off now

Spa track has officially 19 corners but I could easily count five more there if corners were counted in a similar way as in Jeddah.

It's a very fast track with walls close by... I guess all the corners must be accounted so it can be easier to say where the trouble is.

I wouldn't say totally different, but an improvement yes, especially removing the hairpin. I just don't understand why they didn't run that to begin with, or at least use it a decade ago.

the last section is so much faster now - lap times are going to be in the 1:21-1:22

So apparently Audi has bought McLaren, including the F1 team.

So VW operates a F1 team using Mercedes engines and an IndyCar team using Chevrolet engines. Interesting.

source: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/busi ... la-1-entry

apparently a reputable source as well. That is big, if true.

Wonder what Mercedes will do if true. I can see them ditching them because they dont want to share any info with their rival.
I can see McLaren end up with Red Bull engines until the new engines come. especially if Porsche will hook up with Red Bull. I cant see VAG develop 2 engines for F1 so I can see them develop it together with Red Bull and just change the badge based on who is using it.

Would share the financial burden with Red Bull and Red Bull can continue to develop it if VAG pulls the plug after a few years. I cant see Red Bull building a factory for a few years and then shut it completely and be left at the whim of a manufacturer again. It will be a colab then.

Of course they deny it. They even ask for all publications to be removed.

But the source is said to be reputable and not one to post any rumor without credible sources.

other magazine claims there is a bidding war between BMW and Audi over McLaren: https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/ ... r-mclaren/

It's great to see big marques trying to get into F1...

...but not at the cost of McLaren.

Buy Williams instead, that's just a name these days, I've genuinely started liking McLaren since Ricciardo went there, everyone there is likeable. Back in the day, when I fell in love with the sport (mid-00's) I thought Ron Dennis was an insufferable c**t so I never liked them and they had drivers I personally wasn't big on (Raikkonen, Alonso, Hamilton)

Yes. That's a feature, not a bug.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.
