This is so damn satisfying to watch. According to Fernando that was just a 'shakedown' and he wants to properly send it tomorrow. :excited:

If there was a breakaway series that adopted all rules from the early 2000's, I would never look back at F1. Even new A1GP would do.

the closest thing we had was the superleague formula and it died after 4 seasons because almost nobody cared about it.

Oh God no, those horrible no on track passes seasons with the only overtaking happening at pit stops. No thx.

Give me those 2009-2013 rules, we had some good overtaking back then.

It worked where football is big, it was the last time racing was live on free to air TV here.

They also tried GP masters with older F1 drivers, but the only top notch driver that accepted was Mansell and he was a league ahead of the rest

Overtaking is overrated IMO. Thanks to DRS I haven't cared about overtaking for years. It's the battles that are interesting, whether or not they lead to an overtake (or collision).
With V10 cars I wouldn't even care about races, merely watching onboard laps at Abu Dhabi or Sochi during Free Practice would be enough to keep me entertained. More than the last 5 seasons combined.

Luckily no one at the FIA listens to you

Go to youtube then and watch onboards from your "great era"

This is racing, not driving cars around just for laptime. By your logic we don't need a race, just cars driving around.

It really makes you realize how spectacular F1 could still be if it wasn't ruled by dumbbells. The regulation changes for the past 20 years have truly been just a sequence of grave mistakes. It's not just ditching V10, but all the things that have led to current DRS-assisted 20-car-grid lawnmower series where one team can dominate a whole decade. If there was a breakaway series that adopted all rules from the early 2000's, I would never look back at F1. Even new A1GP would do.

I never thought those cars looked good.
Indeed, if you look back at old TBK all you'd see is moaning about the ridiculous about of aerodynamic devices over any and all flat surfaces.
No clean lines at all.

Plus moans about how races were just about the refueling stops as no-one could get anywhere near each other after the start, moans about the traction and launch control of this era (didn't end until 2007 IIRC) and something else that didn't help, grooved tyres that meant the majority of grip was aero and they struggled to keep close in even low speed corners due to the lack of mechanical grip they caused.

So yeah, we moaned just as much back then, just about different things.
(Pretty sure we moaned about the engines at that point too because they had a rev limiter on them from that point and they'd scream against the limiter in top gear, which sounded horrible)

Saying that, they did put it on slicks for this test, so it's a shame there's no like for like comparison with a track it has already raced on.
It must've been a couple of seconds quicker than it was in season just because of that

Ferrari proving once again they're firing th right driver.

Leclerc 6th and Vettel 12th, c'mon, is he even trying any more?

Maybe Racing Point won't have to fudge things for Stroll next year
