I'm failing to see the urge to get back into the car. I'd take my time to properly recover and go fully at it next season. There is a short winter break due to the late season finale and a long calendar ahead.

Unless its his goodbye race :whistling:

if he withdraw from FP1 citing being unable to complete a lap without being breathless can Mercedes appoint another driver for the rest of the weekend?

Well, that looks pretty much like what happened to Stroll in Nurburgring, or with Massa in Hungaroring in 2018.

Yeaa after sitting out the only practice session. Hulk jumped into the car for the first time for quali.

He's putting on a brave face, but tbh he still doesn't sound well. I would be surprised if he can get a negative test in time for Abu Dhabi's 'biosphere' rules.

IIRC, drivers can be replaced up until the start of Q1.

He already missed that window, entering the biosphere now would require special permission from UAE government even with negative test result. If he still has positive result, he's almost certainly out.

I just read he needs to provide *four* negative tests before they will even consider it. I think Mercedes are being quite optimistic here...

In Lewis talk "feeling great" probably means feeling like shit.

It's the classic Lewis double-bluff, "These lungs are dead Bono" followed by him going faster than a Ferrari on his scooter in the paddock.

Yes, I think Renault announced a couple of weeks ago that Alonso will be let loose in it.

I've seen Alonso's '05 Renault spotted in the garages, are they going to be doing some kind of demo this weekend?

The timetable shows a spot on sunday morning for demo laps for that car.
