This also kinda reminds old fart fans like me of Magny Cours 2002

Remember Kimi's brilliant performance against the dominant Ferrari of that year, leading Micheal all race only to lose it on some oil dropped by a Jaguar at the hairpin

Was gutted for Kimi then as I am for George now, but Kimi went on to win many other races and hopefully George will too.

I'm hoping it's this and not the 1978 Canadian GP - Jean-Pierre Jarier replacing Peterson in the Lotus 79, dominating the race and leading by miles, only for the car to fail and hand Villeneuve his first win, and never getting another go in a top car...

I like to think what happened to Russel today will make him a better driver in the long run. It will fuel his desire even more. He should just be glad to have this opportunity. Much like LeClark here last year and others.

If I'm Mercedes, the least I could do is throw briefcases of money and technical resources at Williams so they can at least be a competitive mid-pack team.

Russell is obviously too good to be wasting away as a tail-end charlie for another year.

How about that pass on Bottas - easily the pass of the year :flag:

That was a ballsy move. Lot of ways that could have gone badly.

Turkey, Bahrein and now Shakir, what an eventful trio. Great to see 3 TBK treads with more than 20 pages again.

Who knows if he even used that part of the track in practice. He had to go for it and trust that the car would stick through the bumps, and not get unbalanced enough to miss the braking and hit someone.

It came out of nowhere too, as he had been so cautious in the previous corners.

that pass was the proof that Mercedes needed to secure their titles long term

plus was working his pace fine, and so the tires (even though that layout helped a bit)
