now Lewis calling his pitstops suddenly makes lots of sense

The four wasted seats next year will be Stroll, Vettel, Bottas and Albon. Hopefully RB decide to change that.

Over a full season Lewis can still beat Russell I think but it would actually make him work for it unlike bottas.
I can see him advocating for Russell

Cool result.

Confirmed that Lewis is the reason Mercedes dominates. #blessed

You may joke but there's plenty of times that Lewis has called off Merc plans for pit stops, or decided to pit when Merc didn't want to and it has been the difference between winning and losing

Would Lewis have agreed with Merc to pit today? He def would've questioned it....
Maybe he'd have looked after his tyres enough to the point of not needing to?

We'll never know

Coincidence or not, the last two weekends that Mercedes was totally lost were the ones Hamilton was ill.

Yep, and the reason he's so kind to his tyres.

Wants to visit the Mercedes pits as few times as humanely possible in case they fuck it all up

Let's not judge on this race only. Hamilton's racecraft and strategy wouldn't have shined on such a race / track configuration anyway, it does on other type of tracks, when degradation is high, when conditions are difficult like on Turkey, snatching wins that weren't his.

You can't just ditch all of that because of one occurence of an oval track.

It would be like judging Hamilton and Mercedes solely on Germany 2019.

This is the best F1 season I can remember. Seriously.

And after this race Bottas is done.

I don't think Lewis would want anyone but a tail gunner in his team.

Ultimately, Russell stepped into that car and made it look rather easy all weekend. And coupled with the ultra-passive/vanilla Bottas, it's no surprise that #44 continues to easily pad those stats.

So after all this evidence you're still going with "it's the car, not the driver?"

Well, it's not. It's the team as a whole. The Driver is a big part of that, as much as people don't want to admit it

Don't get you panties in a bunch over it though

Don't worry I'm not but thanks for your concern. Just going by what's becoming more and more evident out there

I have no idea why Perez went to hug the Stroll couple after this race. He should give them the finger, but you know professionalism.

Sod's law will be that Lewis will somehow resurrect himself for next week and the next time George is in a Mercedes, the 2022 rules have changed the game and they're nowhere

plus Perez broke the record for races before the first win by a big margin. Webber took 130, he won in his 190th start

I get the feeling Lewis is a lot sicker than anyone is letting on and he won't be there next week

Perhaps after today Mercedes or even he himself will be convinced George needs another go at it

russell had a brilliant drive, and his puncture was unfortunate. but in regards to how well the car itself performs, is also boosted by how hamilton has helped develop the car and set it up to his driving style.

russell made the most of his opportunity, and the team will have the data to show just how well he measures up to hamilton. the prospect of them being on the same team and racing against each other is something to really look forward to

He took the opportunity to whisper "Enjoy Vettel" in their ears

He just needs to prove a negative test.
