Hamilton wants $50 million a year.

Russell would do it for $5 million a year (plus $10 million to Williams to break his contract).

Sir Frank would do it.

He, and many others would do it for travel expenses and free living and food.
If they would ring up Max tomorrow offering him that deal + paying off RBR, Max will be in that car next season too.

Now, one race practice isn't enough for real judgement, but since this is the internet... I agree. Lewis isn't worth that kind of money when the car is so good any one reasonably above average can get it done.

Obviously the car isn't right for Bottas, but despite the commentators excuses, that FP1 result is indeed an embarrassment.

Turn 5 to 8 really ruins this track and we'll end up having a pretty bad race I'm afraid.

Y'all think this is embarrassing for Bottas, but this should really be more embarrassing for Hamilton. Maybe the natural pace of car #77 is always between +0.1s and +0.5s compared to car number 44 and Russell is proving it right away.

Mercedes should really think how much money they want to spend on other driver if anyone can be first with that car.

Regardless of what his fuel levels were or what program and engine settings he was on, that's a mighty impressive start for Russell to jump in and adapt that quickly.

It's possible I guess. Only way to find out would be to put Georgie boy in the #77 and Bottas in #44/63.

I'm not so sure Bottas would do well though.

Alternative perspective...want to know what you all think about this one.

What if Russell took to it so well because he's been busting his ass trying to get speed out of subpar equipment all year long, so now that he's in the best car, he's really excelling because it's not requiring him to wring the life out of it to make decent time?

That's a good point actually. If Williams has bad aerodynamical grip levels and suspension, Russell would really need to know all the tricks and feel of the Pirellis. Driving a Merc with having that experience would definitely help as feedback from tires is extremely important for all the racers around the world.

So Bottas is not only slow but dangerous to others.

looks like that for Merc is more interesting to create a story with a Russell win

let's see if he can make his tires last, it'll be a long race

I'm curious to see how he does in Q3 tomorrow. If Russell is up there, that'll be the real test to see if Bottas' apparent fragile psyche cracks under pressure or if he can pull one out of the bag.
