IMHO the role of reserve driver was made redundant when testing was effectively banned. There is no chance for a reserve driver to get seat time in the current car apart from the occasional Friday session, and if they don't get a drive the next season then they can end up going for a long time without driving a current car, like Vandoorne has.

Yeah next to impossible to get any track time under the current regulations unfortunately. They're effectively relegated to being simulator workhorses. So not completely redundant.

If the lap time is under a minute, then I can imagine Q1 being a mess. There will probably be lines of slow cars on the final straight, trying to find a gap.

Whilst I'm not the biggest fan of DRS, it could make things quite interesting here. With the lap time being so short, it might be difficult to gain a second on the car behind after making a move. This could allow some re-passing and great midfield battles. I fear Mercedes will still be out of DRS range by the time it's activated.

The unusual layout and driver changes should hopefully make this an exciting weekend.

Nope you'll just get the DRS train like in Monza.

The SC is going around the track on F1TV and I timed a fastest lap of 1:20.7, so the F1 cars can easily go under 1 minute.

There's now a tyre barrier where Grosjean crashed. I can see it being a good thing in a single car accident, but it could also spit cars back across the race track. Pros and cons to every solution, I guess.

Just realized that we may have a very short race, Monza-like.

I just checked the schedule, why is this race 3 hours later than last week?

Apparently the organisers wanted a pure night race instead of a sunset race like it normally is.

I had hoped one of the races had taken place in the daytime. Two races under the floodlights is rather meh.

Laptime doesn't matter, it's the high average speed that makes the race shorter in time (distance being always 305km)

What is the average speed around here compared to Monza?

20/22 in F2 practice within 1 second. Qualifying is going to be mental.

Lol, Sainz not knowing which way to turn. I so expect someone having a brainfart and going to the longer circuit.

56.6 already. Betting on a 53 for pole.
