Looking back at the first pic in this thread of the cars entering Eau Rouge, reminded me of this camera person filming the cars going up Eau Rogue at this year's grand prix. Kinda freaks me out where this guy is standing and how exposed he is with the cars whizzing by at almost 300 km/h. All it takes is a bit of contact and some debris to go flying...

That dent on the right side of the roll hoop is possibly where the barrier hit as the car was still travelling forward through it, before being turned sideways. The HALO would be what deflected the barrier up instead of Romain getting a face full of it. I shudder thinking about it. Crazy stuff. What a long way we've come. We used to speculate like this on the crash photos forum, about old gruesome fatal crashes where it was difficult to know where each element was and what hit what and how the driver was injured... and here we are, still doing the same, around what is arguably the worst piece of wreckage in history, but while the driver is safely sat and smiling on a hospital bed. |
