Pretty sure Dan pronounces his own own last name without the second i - "Riccardo"

Anyone else have an issue with "Eye-er-ton" vs "Air-ton" Senna. Or was that just an American thing?

The correct pronounciation would actually be "Eye-eer-ton". I can understand why he actually wanted people to say Air-ton, it's easier and sounds better in English.

It'll go back Italian if he ever gets the Ferrari drive ;)

There is actually precedent for 'Air-ton' in English, at least in the UK. There was a well-known politician called Acton Ayrton in the late 19th Century, who now has a light named after him (The Ayrton Light) in the clock tower at the houses of parliament, which is lit when parliament is sitting. His name was definitely pronounced in this way and I would imagine 'Air-ton' is the common proounciation due to him.

My friend named his son Ayrton. He pronounces it 'Air-ton', so I guess that's how the British like to pronounce it. (Yes, he is an F1 fan and somehow convinced his wife to go with the name).

That's an interesting statistic, drivers who got their maiden win on the opening round of a season (not counting 1950 as anyone would be a first time winner),

1952 - Piero Taruffi (Ferrari) - Swiss GP
1956 - Luigi Musso (shared with Fangio) (Ferrari) - Argentine GP
1959 - Jack Brabham (Cooper) - Monaco GP
1962 - Graham Hill (BRM) - Dutch GP
1967 - Pedro Rodriguez (Cooper) - South African GP
1971 - Mario Andretti (Ferrari) - South African GP
1999 - Eddie Irvine (Ferrari) - Australian GP

It was more common back then

my goodness how much Vettel whined on the radio

was that fear of conking out in the rain, like we saw further on his career?

There was so much at the end of that race the TV director just didn't bother covering

Apparently Maldanado did a Jarno Trulli and crashed coming out of the pit lane

There was a Marshal picking up debris at the hairpin from an incident 2 laps before the Button/Vettel pass

A Force India crashes at the back chicane and retires with right front damage

But, y'know, he got a good few shots of Mrs Schumacher and Jenson's GF
