Victorian premier has just said on Sky News that if the GP goes ahead, it’ll be behind closed doors

It's coming down to money

Promoter cancel = race fee paid
FIA/Liberty cancel = no race fee paid

FIA, Liberty Media and the organizer of the GP have reached a private settlement which will not be made public to the press or the fans...

They'll show it as if the FIA, the local government, Liberty despide heavy protests by the teams made the right call months in advance.

So will Seb and Kimi be able to turn their planes around in time for FP1? Kubica might get a run if he's in the country, I can't actually find who Ferrari's reserve drivers are this year.

I don't think either of them will be back. They both would have known that it wasn't certain that the GP was off. They have clearly had a 'fuck it' moment and decided to go themselves.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Wehrlein, Hartley, Davide Rigon and Antonio Fuoco were last year's test drivers, they may still be for this year.

They've left the dangerous infected F1 paddock for the safety and isolation of their countries international airports

Good luck guys

According to Polish F1 commentator on-site: RBR, AlphaTauri, Racing Point, Alfa Romeo, Haas & Williams are working in the garages.

Ferrari, Renault & Mercedes are not.

Mark Hughes on Twitter quoting the FIA as saying they can't cancel the race as they would then be held liable for breach of contract.

Pretty sure most courts would boot the promoters in the arse if they sued F1 over cancelling. Judges can tell that public health > money.

What about the 30 million fee? The cars have passed the Thursday homologation. Therefore the money can't be returned per contract even if there is no race.

I don't think Vettel and Kimi could make it back for qualifying even if they wanted to. The next flight from Dubai to Melbourne after they land leaves at 3:00am Dubai time on Saturday morning, which would already be the middle of the day in Melbourne.

Finally, they've officially cancelled it. Common sense prevails
