Apparently, Bottas removed the mention of Mercedes in his Instagram bio. Uh oh

I think that was bad for both sides, Sergio didn't know how to play the team game because he was still young and took team orders that benefitted the team (mainly, don't race and run into your team mate) as a personal attack

But there's no doubt Mclaren didn't care about him as much as turning the shock of Lewis' depature into an opportunity to stick one over Ferrari and steal a driver from their young driver program, one that probably could've done with a couple more years out of the spotlight at that point

His bouncing back from the the low of 2013 is one of the better success stories of modern f1 TBH

Russell's removed Williams from his too

I thought this would be like it was never there in the first place but apparently it was there before. See here

Interesting to see how this actually pans out. I cant see Mercedes act this quick and even if they did Bottas probably wouldnt have accepted it so quick either.

Bottas' Twitter still references Mercedes, but George's Twitter and Instagram say simply 'Formula 1 Driver'.

except he already signed a 1 year deal with them earlier.

But I think its a whole lot of nothings.

Well he removed F1 Driver from his bio last year. Wouldn't read any thing into it.

And just because he signed a deal, it doesn't mean anything either. It's F1.

RTL is now saying that Red Bull is trying to steal Russell.

Makes sense - it's how they managed to get hold of Verstappen from within Merc's grasp a few years ago. Racing drivers don't like standing still

Forces Merc's hand nicely now. This really depends on whether Red Bull are thinking of signing him for 2022 or if they'll go the whole hog and pay Williams off to get him now

And if that holds true, it's quite a dilemma for Russell.

Red Bull isn't a championship competitive team for a long time even though they've managed to keep themselves in the top pack for quite a long time. However, the future of Mercedes' team isn't that certain, so sticking with them doesn't seem to be a no-brainer.

Mercedes participation is at the whim of the Board of Directors.

Red Bull participation is at the whim of one billionaire.

Decisions...

Bottas is a doormat for Mercedes and nothing more than a security blanket for Hamilton. He'd be toiling around at the same pace as Vettel if he wasn't in that beast of a car. So given his perceived doormat status at Mercedes, I'm thinking they wouldn't hesitate to can him in favor of securing Russell long term to avoid the risk of losing their blue chip prospect to a rival.
