Why do I think it's going to be a borefest?

Because despite how it looks on the surface, it's not actually that different to any other F1 track, it just has less corners. The straights are the only fast bits - it's not like it's full of high speed, balls to the wall sweepers.

I'm looking forward to the novelty of it but I fear that will have worn off by FP2.

It's a better idea to give them a new track they have never tested or raced on before than 2 races on the same damn boring Bahrain layout, so at least that's something.

one interesting thing they could do is race there with flat wing setup to break speed trap records

What a wonderful calendar this season turned to have. It's got everything from challenging corners of Mugello to old-school sections of Nürburgring and Imola, from undulating hills of Portimao and tricky corners of Istanbul to fast straights of outer Sakhir. If only we didn't know in advance that Lewis is gonna win them all, it could be a 10/10 season. Well, at least the midfield fight will hopefully be insane. And maybe October weather will give us plenty of wet racing (yeah right).

Oh yeah it's definitely a good thing. I'm just keeping my expectations in check like the boring old cynic I am :flag:

There's nothing wrong with the normal Bahrain design afaik? Always a decent race.

It's amazing how quick they were to embrace these venues under duress. In normal times they'd never care to give the application a look.

Yeah but you can't have fights and excitement at every corner lol, that's asking for too much.

Sainz has an problem.

Car was smoking on the lap to grid, It's now back in the garage been worked on & Carlos has gone back to the paddock.

Sky reporting that it's an Exhaust failure & that he won't be starting the race.

Turkey's gonna be 3 quid to get in. They expect 100k visitors.

If any of you wants some cheap Covid-19, there is your chance

They didn't break the 150mph/1 minute barrier until 1962.

Just a tidbit: the average speeds at Indy when it was part of the WDC were broken just a few years later, at Spa in 1967. Would have been broken earlier if not for the 1,5L era, as in 1960 already, the average speed in the Belgian GP was only 8kph off the average speed at the Indy 500 (215kph vs 223kph).

damn Spa was the real meatgrinder

to see how Indy evolved once they dropped the roadsters in favour of more balanced MR

Hah, just looked into it: Indianapolis wasn't even the fastest WDC race in 1959: Avus was!

You got me reminiscing about the tiny Monza Special rear wings that used to turn up occasionally :excited:

Of course, Williams didn't race this after presumably working out that just chopping the top off the rear wing didn't do the job:

And the Petrobras team out-F1d the F1 teams by fitting the element upside down to stall the wing:

Claire Williams and Williams family will leave the team after The Italian Grand Prix at Monza as Part of selling the team to investor group.

An era has come to a sad end.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

That's a shame. Whilst Williams have been poor for the last few years, I feel like they've made a massive gain in pace from 2019 to 2020 (helped by Haas by Alfa suffering with their engines, but still considerably faster than last season).

Hopefully Claire or the family may still have some involvement in F1.
