I don't think you need to sprechen Deutsch to understand 'Red Bull setzt Ultimatum'.

The tl;dr is that Ferrari are blocking the engine freeze that Red Bull want. Red Bull's response is that they will leave if they don't get it.

The freeze itself is also contingent on a seperate rule change - the fuel for 2022 onwards is supposed to be different, with a 1:4 biofuel ratio for 2022 and then a carbon neutral fuel for 2023. This would require changes to the engines. So if they are to be frozen, then the fuel change would have to be pushed back as well.

AMuS have now done an interview with Todt regarding the future of engines.

https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/for ... raftstoff/

With this in particular about any engine freeze and the effect it may have on the introduction of cleaner fuels;

Quote:
But under no circumstances would he get involved in horse trading if an engine freeze meant a waiver or postponement of the introduction of CO2-free fuels. "We have to drive emission-free, sooner rather than later."

Those are going to be tough negotiations...

They can't lose 4 cars on the grid just to get those new fuels, right?

Once again F1 will pay for their short-sightedness. If they had made every effort to grow the grid to 26 cars (instead of placing $200M entry fee), losing 1 or 2 teams wouldn't be such a big thing. Now each team knows their participation is invaluable, because F1 can't afford to have a 16 or 18-car grid. So teams can always threat to quit if something doesn't please them.

Ideal thing for Todt would be to lose a few teams to them setting up a "heritage F1" (on their own back of course) so they can run polluting engines, then fold the rest into Formula E

I always thought by 2030 Formula E and F1 would be merged into one giant "Green" series but maybe I was too conservative with the time frame..." 8O

about that Tyrrell new incorporation, I was searching through several companies in that database a while back and found out that March engineering facilities are still in use by F1 teams

The March name was owned by a guy called Andrew Fitton, who was also involved in football with Swindon Town: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Fitton. I think he submitted a speculative entry to F1 for 2010, around the same time that Franz Hilmer submitted an entry under the Brabham name (the rights to which are now back with the Brabham family) and Litespeed submitted an entry under the Team Lotus name (which eventually morphed into Lotus Racing)

Saw an Alpine in the wild today.......looked like what happens when Mazda, Toyota, Subaru and Honda get direction from Hyundai to build a Porsche Carerra prototype. It didn't look......bad.....but then again it didn't look "let's rename one of F1's biggest teams" good either.

Reminds me of Caterham...."Wait....that's the F1 team"??? Such a strange decision by Renault.

Underwhelming decision. One should make place for younger talent and the other should just go eat icecream and help his son's career.

Excellent news, I mean the fact that Kimi continues. I hope Alfa can fight against Renaut so we'll have epic Räikkönen vs. Alonso fights like it was 2005. :D
Dunno why they kept Gio. Can't see him as a future star, but more like Liuzzi/Sutil/Gutierrez -type of driver.

Well from a fan/entertainment perspective I'm definitely glad to see Kimi sticking around for another year. Really puzzled by the Gio decision though. Surely he has to be on thin water and swapped out if he has an underwhelming start to 2021.

I think Gio is kept to promote Alfa Romeo brand in general. And next year's car is practically the same as this, so no point to waste a young talent on a car that has no meaning for 2022 regulations.

Kimi showed us few days ago why he's still one of the best behind the wheel. He wants to drive F1 car, it's a good hobby at this point to him. A hobby that he gets paid for as his marketing value is massive.

I was curious, so I looked it all up. Kimi (after this weekend in Imola) will have 328 GP entries and by the end of the season will have 332. If next year's schedule stays with 23 races, that means Kimi will have entered 355 F1 races out of a total of 1058 or, 33.55% of every GP race ever held. It's crazy to me that he will have entered 1/3 of every race despite not being born until 30 years after the sport came into existence.

That's an amazing stat there. And the talk in Finland already is that the 2022 season is also possible as it is for Fernando. Why people speculate this already? It was not announced as final season but contract renewal.

I think Kimi has done enough to deserve another season. He's not being out paced by his younger team mate. He's popular with the fans, and he very rarely makes mistakes or gets into accidents with other drivers. It's only natural that our fitness levels and reflexes decline as we get older, but if a driver can still deliver good performances into their 40s, then it's great to see them continue to race. It also makes me feel less old.

Some people may think that he should step aside to give younger drivers a chance, but until the young drivers are outperforming him, he has every right to keep his seat (and on that basis, it's Giovinazzi that could have made way for another driver).

I'd be amazed to see Kimi go beyond 2022, however.

Russell confirmed for 2021 and Latiffi.

So Perez to RBR?
