So, no racing for the next couple of weeks or months. What are we going to talk about?

Did anyone see a good movie or something?

I suggest we stream an old race and post about it on the forum or chat in discord as if it were the current race.

Maybe next Sunday we could do an Australian GP, maybe 2003, 2008, 2009?

I'm going to be in isolation by the end of the week, I could try organising something.

I vote 2006. Crashfest.

Australian GP? Put 1985, that race Senna was driving like Maldonado mixed with Andrea de Cesaris in a car that was a rocket

It's not like development is occuring right now. Factories are most likely all shutdown for the near future.

I think the season will be too short this year, doesn't justify the I+D resources spent on the 2020 cars.

The factories are not shut down but they will be busy making ventilator parts.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

That's really bad news. Teams at the back getting hit by a double whammy of losing out on key money this year and having another year of this uncompetitive formula that routinely produces boring racing. This might be what tips Williams and Haas over the edge

No Monaco at all this year. First time since 1954.

I think forcing an expensive total rethink of technical regs on teams like Williams and Haas after this year when they'll already struggle to survive with the loss of race and sponsorship revenue would absolutely tip them over the edge. Given the current situation this is the only decision that makes sense.

Good video on cancelled races

Shameless plug for my earlier article with more cancelled races (based on some of the work that was done here in the Cancelled Races List thread): https://historseye.wordpress.com/2018/0 ... ever-were/

well F1 could easily fund all the teams equally and avoid them to get external funding, pretty like a state funded initiative so the racing could be focused only on driver talent

Baku seems like it will also be postponed with an announcement likely tomorrow.

I feel that there won't be any races with attendance this year, in Europe at least. The Covid-19 surveillance will remain high even after this first confinement period, until we have a solid cure or vaccine deployed which is not before a year. Events this big need to be green-lighted long enough before, and in the meantime you never know if the outbreak won't awaken again forcing you into confinment (even less rigorous ones like preventing X person events).

Maybe outside Europe they may allow spectators later in the year, otherwise I think they may just race and broadcast on TV, providing limited staff on track and all the paddock tested regularly. I don't know, just my feeling, the situation may get much better in a few weeks/months but this stuff seems here to stay.

Yeah, I'm increasingly feeling we won't get any races at all this year

In that case the FIA should bring in a rule that the teams must keep this year's cars, no matter how much or little they are raced, and not develop new ones, so they can run as is in 2021 without any new parts needed

Hopefully that'll save money for the smaller teams and they'll still be around when we finally get going again

Sounds like that is pretty much what they plan to do.
https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/14873 ... egulations

Quote:
The plan is for the 2020 rules to be used for a further season, with the current chassis being used in '21 and the possibility of a freeze on more components to be introduced.

"Due to the currently volatile financial situation this has created, it has been agreed that teams will use their 2020 chassis for 2021, with the potential freezing of further components to be discussed in due course.

"The introduction and implementation of the Financial Regulations will go ahead as planned in 2021, and discussions remain ongoing between the FIA, Formula 1 and all teams regarding further ways to make significant cost savings.

TBH i'm actually starting to think they should just scrap this season entirely as I don't think things aren't going to change a great deal for at least the next 6 months, Possibly longer which isn't going to leave much room to get anything like a full season in.

And potentially running without fans is all well & good but you still have a few hundred people in the paddock even if you only take the absolutely essential personnel & then you also have the track workers, Medical staff etc...
