I don't think you need to sprechen Deutsch to understand 'Red Bull setzt Ultimatum'.

The tl;dr is that Ferrari are blocking the engine freeze that Red Bull want. Red Bull's response is that they will leave if they don't get it.

The freeze itself is also contingent on a seperate rule change - the fuel for 2022 onwards is supposed to be different, with a 1:4 biofuel ratio for 2022 and then a carbon neutral fuel for 2023. This would require changes to the engines. So if they are to be frozen, then the fuel change would have to be pushed back as well.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

In more grim news, rumours are doing the rounds that Russell is going to be dropped to make way for Checo, who has found his route into Haas blocked by the impending arrival of Mazepin

Well fuck

Locked into a contract with the old owners that he didn't want, new owners thinking of breaking the contract after the Mercedes opportunity has already gone. For the time being at least. That's a real kick in the balls

Mercedes opportunity is still there. They only have one driver under contract.

Pretending you're gonna quit to enforce rule changes doesn't work these days unless you talk to Indycar about a potential entry first.

Or indeed....in the 80s too

There are also rumours that Magnussen is also losing his seat, so I'm curious who would be the 2nd driver at Haas in this scenario... Illot (not sure Ferrari would want to make that kind of investment in him though)? Shwartzman to complete a full Russian lineup?

Haas would happily take a Ferrari junior if it saved them their engine bill.

I think Magnussen has done a pretty good job this season. It's hard to judge because the car (or engine) is so bad, but he's made some cracking starts. Out of the two, Grosjean probably has to go.

Should Haas continue with both the same drivers next year then big questions need asking about the team's management.

Haas management is so stupid they will probably get rid of Kevin and keep Romain.

Well, Gunther's said he's not considering Ilott. They were linked with Schumacher but Alfa seems more likely for him at the moment

To be honest, I can't see them taking two rookies. If Perez isn't being considered, it'll likely be between Grosjean, Magnussen and Hulkenberg. Given the level of esteem Grosjean is held in at the team, I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him get another year

Looks like the season opener will be in Melbourne after all: https://the-race.com/formula-1/f1-2021- ... -possible/

Also Autosport reckon Alfa will keep Kimi AND Gio, and Schumacher will end up at Haas alongside Mazepin: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/15289 ... ver-market

I guess they're aiming for 2022 anyways and take 2021 for granted?

Also worth noting there are growing rumours that Gasly will end up at Renault in place of Ocon as part of a potential Red Bull-Renault deal: https://www.racefans.net/2020/10/19/rus ... n-rumours/

It could be that all the Mercedes junior drivers are out of F1 next year. Rencken does suggest Ocon may end up at Williams in place of Latifi, but I've also seen it suggested that Dorilton are trying to distance themselves from Mercedes (potentially explaining Russell's rumoured exit) as part of their clear-out

The Schumacher-Haas connection is apparently because Ferrari are trying to bolster their links with them, as Haas' deal is up soon and they may go looking elsewhere for technical support. It'd probably be quite a nice way of bringing Mick into F1 by putting him alongside Mazepin, a driver who would be beatable

Seems like there's a lot still to be decided, even amongst the "confirmed" drivers. And through all of this, Lewis still hasn't signed his contract extension...
