OK so I guess Mercedes are gambling that traffic or a safety car will close everything up and Lewis will have much fresher tyres at the end

That was so bizarre. Obvious SC conditions but they waited until there were cars driving by as Russell was trying to climb out of the car before bothering. The odds of something happening to result in another car hitting him are really low in dry conditions, but still.
