Sigh... Probably should have been a penalty for consistency, but Leclerc ran it too deep, Max didn't even turn in on the same line as the lap before and there wasn't enough track for all of that, so in the end it's really a racing deal and I don't want to see penalties for racing deals. I don't think Vettel should have gotten a penalty either rhough, which is why I say this should have for consistency.

Damned if they do and damned if they don't.

The only thing I really don't like is the pushing cars off the track. It seems cheap. It's like, "Well, i can't really pass clean, so I'll just turn in late and run him off into the weeds."

Wait, so I just saw the Pirelli info graphic about the tyres used...and I am really confused. It said Leclerc was on used Hards, but I checked the live timing app and according to the live timing (Liberty the shiffty buggers have auto re new set as default, should have checked) at no stage during practice or qualifying did he use the Hards. What have I missed? Did he do a practice start on them? Did he go to the grid on them? If so that is pretty stupid of Ferrari to burn them even for 1 lap.

Anybody know who the steward was this week? At Canada, Emanuelle Pirro was all over the TV but the Austrian GP steward was never shown. Perhaps to protect his identity from the hordes of drunk hooligan Verstappen fans.

Tom Kristensen - his name as well as the other steward's names were printed on the FIA releases about the investigation and announcement.

what i hate about f1 is how they've completely killed real overtakes over the years with the triple help of:
- stupid gimmicks like DRS or Kers
- cars badly designed for battles, too much aero efficiency and grip, too much pit stop tactics that kills actual on track fights.
- regulations that penalized any overtake that wasn't more than clean.

Having said that, what i hate more than these three things in f1 is the inconsistency of their judgments, if there are rules, even if they're bad rules, i want to see them applied with consistency.
In the specific case of this overtake:
- Verstappen didn't leave enough space for the other car to stay on track
- Verstappen hits Leclerc's car.
- Verstappen pushes Leclerc's car on the kerb and off track.
in the past each one of these single things would have most surely led to at least a "give back position" order from the stewards. With the three of them combined it should be obvious that's an illegal move.

So, in the end: do i want to see more of these overtakes in F1? for fuck sake, of course i want to.
But i also want to be told they're allowed to do such things before they start doing them. I don't want to be told they can't and then see stewards doing nothing when these things happen.
Imagine in football there's the rule you can't touch the ball with hands, but if a team scores an amazing hand goal in the last minute of a boring game they go "well, just let it be, we don't want to ruin the only goal we've seen in this game"
that's just the amateur way to do stuff.

they're the only tracks with racing

sometimes I wonder. Wouldn't hurt the rulemakers to apply something like "cars qualified to Q3 must use lower wing setup for race"

at least it'll make the cars harder to drive

These tires needs to be break in to have maximum performance on the outlap from the pits, so he probably did use them on the lap he went to grid. It doesn't burn them durability-wise.

And since everyone did the race with one stop, I don't think there was any issues with Leclerc's tires' performance. Every race is now a one stop race and it's damn boring.
