No way they can mess this up. Liberty might as well sell F1 if they force a penalty here.

The people who promote the sport don't control the race meeting stewards lol

Fans: We want less penalties, LET 'EM RACE

Fans when their favourite team/driver gets passed: OMG PENALISE HIM! PENALTY! MORE PENALTIES!

You really think Liberty doesn't talk to these stewards at some point? You are very naive indeed.

If it was true, then they'd have given Vettel the nod in Canada because a battle between Lewis/Vettel is much easier for them to promote than another Mercedes victory.

Dominance leads to less viewing figures so at least after Canada they could pretend there was some kind of Ferrari resurgence to lure back Casual fans

I cannot think how utterly underwhelming it would be if a) Max lost that win and b) Leclerc got his first win by a penalty. Would be more soul-destroying than that entire 2 hours last weekend

Yeah, pretty much this.

Iono, I guess you could say they've learnt from their past mistakes....

Also this is a completely different situation to making a mistake and rejoining while pushing someone else off....

It sucks either way. If they penalize him, it’s a disappointing way to decide the race. If they don’t, the officials are just turning a blind eye to this pathetic form of racing so many of these drivers engage in.

The lap before the pass was amazing. Neither driver gave an inch and neither driver did anything unfair. The next lap wasn’t good. I don’t know why some of you can’t see what makes those different.

Liberty probably knows this was the best race this season and they can't fuck this up. Not after Canada & the Paul Ricard boredom!

Yeah I'm left with a bit of a bitter taste regardless of what the stewards decide. Everything leading up to the pass was great. The pass itself was shite.

Max deserved the win and had the time to make the move cleanly. It frustrates me to no end that he basically couldn't be bothered

Everyone stop the bitterness. Racing for first place is ruthless. You don't leave the door open and expect to get away with it. Leclerc knows that. He lost that corner. Deal with it.

You can't expect an F1 driver to sit on their ass and be kind to the leader a couple laps from the finish. Y'all wanted racing, you got racing and now we're still hearing whining for some reason.

Congrats to the deserving driver and deserving team for this victory.

It will be over very soon for the frenchman.

I really wonder if gasly is that bad this year or is verstappen that good?

Thinking about Bahrein 2018, I have to admit that I'm totally lost about Gasly.

So how do the stewards go about this process? Do they sit down with both drivers and hear their stories and then review the telemetry/evidence or is this a decision made in solitude like they did in Canada during the race?

Thing is, LeClerc had the straightline speed to get back at Max just as he did the lap before. It was that hit into the side and forcing LeClerc over the sausage kerb with killed the momentum he needed.

To be clear I enjoyed the race overall and obviously I'd take this any day of the week over last Sunday's race. But it's annoyed me for a while (and clearly I'm not the only one) that pushing other drivers off the road has become acceptable. Ruthless is fine, but there's a difference between ruthless and plain pushing people off. Montoya's move on Schumacher at Brazil 2001 is a great example of ruthless but fair imo (1:47 in this video):

Don't you think a move like that is more impressive? Anyone can chuck it down the inside and push the other driver off at the exit. I want to see a bit more skill and finesse.

Anyway. I don't even want to see a penalty. Just not a fan of this kind of racing. Every time this comes up I make the same point - if this was Monaco and there was a barrier there, Verstappen would be out of the race and we'd be laughing at him.

The Stewards are obviously waiting for the Dutch fans to go home before they make their minds up....

They don't want to end up with an orange flare lodged up their rear ends if they DQ max....

Dammit, saw that the race would start at 9.10 am Canadian time, turned on the tv at 9 am, race is over. Damn you time zones, it was 9.10 am East Canadian time.
