I guess nobody would complain if a field or walrus cars & stepped noses delivered an overtaking fest. Nobody would claim the "sound is terrible so F1 sucks" either. It's all down to quality of racing. Nobody would praise the sound of V12 if it delivered a stinker unable to beat out gardening hour on Sunday afternoon :p

If F1 just did the simple trick of adding gravel and grass run offs, then I reckon the racing wouldn't be half bad. Drivers would actually get punished for making mistakes and we wouldn't have this track limits nonsense. The whole nonsense that Martin Brundell keeps crapping on about how we would loose cars out of the race and hence action is just that, nonsense. It wasn't an issue back in the day and actually if someone binned it and stuck it in the gravel then that is ACTION personified.

This short little clip is one of the reasons why I loved F1 in the first place. A crash, a spectacular engine blow up and those glorious V10s....

Yeah, this losing cars nonsense is hogwash. Reliability is bulletproof these days unless you blow it hard like Honda did. 2 of the last 3 DNFs across two races were done on purpose to save engine mileage. We have no on-track action anyway so you can't lose something that you don't actually possess to begin with.

They wouldn't lose cars for simply spinning off into the gravel and treating them the same way IndyCar does. They're already punished by losing all that time so why punish them further by not allowing outside assistance? They did it for Schumacher and Hamilton on occasion.

People still bitch about unfair VSC and then we have the FCY wave-around rule. Let's be honest, less durable tires got Pirelli lambasted top to bottom due to safety concerns which made people freak out. Can't believe people here have such a short memory. Add the gigantic egos of the likes of Horner and that's bad press waiting to happen.

Seriously, I was mad right after the end of Paul Ricard race. Right now, seeing all the frustration around, I am feeling very sad.

Do not think we're done with you after today's race, F1. Don't you dare think that a one-night stand will have us back, no matter how sexy it was. You're still on thin ice.

Tell that to Sky F1. They were wanking themselves silly over how good F1 is and saying things like all those who complained last week, wHy dOn'T yOu CoNtAcT uS nOw

Imagine going to a restaurant and being served a steak full of maggots, then being told you can't complain when you eventually get served a good one. That's Sky F1

Sky must be fucking panicking that the first exclusive year of their coverage that they've paid a huge amount of money for has been an almost complete grey wash
Expect them to milk it and tell us how great it is forever more as otherwise their profits are going to tank.

The irony being we finally got a decent race and new winner before the ONE race that'll be live on channel 4.
Any uptick in viewership as a result of Austria will hopefully be for c4s benefit :whistling:

Indeed. We got very close to a meltdown today, that thankfully didn't happen, by the way.

Also, we hade a proper track this weekend. Even Monaco provided better racing than Paul Ricard this year.

Tell that to the Wolf:

Quote:
“I think all the ones that used the polemic and the hardest words in their rhetoric should remember [this race] the next time they start to complain,” said Wolff when asked by Motorsport.com.

“We shouldn’t be doing a Ratner and talking our sport down when we have a next race where the sport is more than alive, but is spectacular, with a full crowd, with controversy on track, and some fantastic racing."

Because ONE decent race makes a trend, right?

Man that guy is a piece of work to put it lightly.

That isn't surprising coming from the boss of that team that says they will have a tough weekend before snatching a 1-2 finish.

Basically, we went from one of the most unfortunate streaks ever (Montreal and Paul Ricard) to one of the best streaks ever (Red Bull Ring, Silverstone, Hockenheim). Toto might have a point after all.

There are signs the balance of power might finally be shifting, someone might actually threaten Mercedes at the top, and someone might actually threaten the big 3 from the lower teams. But F1 is broken because that took 6 years to happen, and it still might not happen at all.

Canada was an interesting one (resembles a lot what we saw in Hungary). But, at least for me, the stewards' interference was a huge blow that ruined the whole experience.

Even before Paul Ricard, I had the impression this season wasn't that bad in comparison to other ones if we strictly talk about action on track. The problem of this season had a lot to do with context - a broader one (5 seasons of Mercedes domination) and a narrower one (Ferrari left preseason looking like a true challenger to Mercedes, which they never were). This context generated a high expectation that wasn't even close to being matched.
