Anyone know when the 1000th GP (including non-points races) was?

What are the planned festivities for the 1000th race? Or are they just going to start each social media post with "it's the 1000th race!!!i!! OMG!!!" and nothing else?

made some countings using the non-championship races that didn't belong to other championships (like Tasman Series, South African F1 among others) and the winner of the 1000th F1 race de facto is Rubens Barrichello in the 2002 Hungarian GP

there you go, the 1000th F1 race was a boring one, like the one we'll see on sunday morning

another interesting facts is that were held 307 non points races, some accounted as Grand Prix and some being held at the same day as others. The year with most non points races was 1953 with 41, added to the 9 points races and there'll be 50 races in one year

and finally, the last non points winner in F1 history is Keke Rosberg, winner of the 1983 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch

During the lat race they said that ferarri has started 976 races. Does anyone have a list of what the 23 races were that they didn't start?

Most of them might be the Indy 500 races that counted points for F1 championship standings.

Post subject:  Re: Formula 1 Heineken Chinese Grand Prix 2019 - 1000th GP

there are some races that Ferrari entered but did not started, like the 1982 Swiss GP, 1950 French GP

added to the Indy 500 in the 50's Ferrari also didn't entered the 1959 British GP, 1960 and 1961 USA GP, 1961 South Africa GP, 1966 Mexican GP, 1973 Netherlands and German GPs, 1976 Austrian GP, the last ones being in 1982, Belgian and Swiss GP

if you count, they didn't took part in 27 races which mean they'll complete 1000 race starts next year

Bring back the 1990s-early 2000s TV graphics for this race!

Post subject:  Re: Formula 1 Heineken Chinese Grand Prix 2019 - 1000th GP

If I were Liberty, I'd have done this:

TV/Atmosphere:

- Old graphics
- 94-2002 TV intro
- Mandatory air horns for the spectators
- Murray Walker/Martin Brundle in the english feed, with James Allen in the pitlane. John Watson and Ben Edwards to carry out FPs and Qualifying.

And, knowing that the 1000th race was inminent, the teams were presented with this one-off rules for the race:

Racing:

- 1-hour/12 lap qualifying session. Qualifying car setup allowed.
- Spare car allowed
- Warm up session in sunday morning.
- Allow teams placed 4th to 10th in the 2018 standings, to enter a 3rd car. This 7 cars will attempt to Pre-qualify for the race. The 4 fastest will take part in qualifying. Special liveries allowed, drivers can score points but they won't count towards the WCC.
- Have at it: No mechanical failure counts towards the season's maximum number of parts used.

Now you have a celebration.

The pace car should be a Mercedes Silver Arrow from the 50s

AMG should surely be able to sort that out

Waved flag to start the race.

It does sound like Murray Walker will be a guest on the 1000th GP special of Beyond the Grid though, which is nice.

Bernie should have the honour, one bottle of Heineken in one hand, the chinese flag on the other

Pfft only probably Murray Walker is left that has seen all 1000, though I doubt he's in a fit state to fly to China...

Wikipedia is actually a good source on this.

Assuming that we start after Silverstone 1950 (although there were 4 non-championship races before that in 1950 and others in the years prior) and discounting 1952 and 1953 because they were all raced under F2 regulations, there have been:

- 98 between 1950 - 1959 (1954 had 25 (!) non-championship races)
- 94 between 1960 - 1969 (1961 with 23 races, although some had slight regulation variations)
- 32 between 1970 - 1979
- 3 between 1980 - 1983 (Brands Hatch 1983 was the last one)
= 227 races

227 races ago was the 2007 Italian Grand Prix.

(BTW, the Tasman series doesn't count, as the engines used on those cars were already obsolete regulation-wise)

Spoiler:
If we add again the stupid amount of races that used F1/F2 rules in 52-53, we get a total of 303 non-championship races, meaning race 1000 would've been the 2003 Australian GP.

If I were Liberty I would just run a WEC race and say that is the "new" direction of F1.

So apparently the idea was to have Silverstone as 1000th race. But because the weather in April could be bad, they decided not to put Silverstone in April.

pussies!

Somebody should have told them that Bernie not only had the balls to put Silverstone in April, but then had the additional balls to blame Silverstone for the weather in April :metal:

That was the time where Silverstone was heavily criticised for facilities and road access. That Easter debacle didn't help matters.

While you're absolutely right, Silverstone did a piss poor job of planning for certain eventualities and creating contingency plans that accounted for standard April weather. And then their management of the situation as it happened was even worse. They essentially went into the event in the same way they manage the GP in June or July.
