pussies!

Somebody should have told them that Bernie not only had the balls to put Silverstone in April, but then had the additional balls to blame Silverstone for the weather in April :metal:

While you're absolutely right, Silverstone did a piss poor job of planning for certain eventualities and creating contingency plans that accounted for standard April weather. And then their management of the situation as it happened was even worse. They essentially went into the event in the same way they manage the GP in June or July.

Not only that, but after everything the fans endured, the race had the nerve to be dry and dull as the ditchwater most of the fans had to wade through to watch it, so it was a fail all around

Maybe they should've moved Monaco earlier for one year, the weather there couldn't be so bad, even in April, and that's a pretty apt race for the 1000th

not only the flight, his lungs would shut down at the precise moment he gets off the plane because of pollution

A friend of mine is living in Shangai at the moment and has confirmed that sun and blue skies are things that people see on TV, but never experience in real life. And that makes me sad.

Incredible that he still can still project his voice like he did in his commentary days at 95.

Yes, very good point - I think this particular GP might have been the turning point for them in terms of sorting out the access and site problems that had been around for years.

It's amazing really, he's still going strong at 95 and still alive, we could've in theory had at least another 5-10 years of commentary out of him judging by how sharp he still is
But of course, he more than earnt his retirement years with the life he's had

It definitely helped speed up the local council and Silverstone to get the approval and funding in place for the improved access and the A43 / Silverstone Bypass, which was completed in time for the 2001 race.

I lived about 45 minutes away from the race track for over 5 years and I can tell you, the smog and pollution is fucking horrendous. Even a "clear sunny day" is a blueish grey. It is depressing as shit. Also nobody in Shanghai gives a shit about the race. I never once saw any kind of promo stuff in the 5 years I was there. Its a travesty that this race will be the promo for the 1000th race. It doesn't deserve it.

The Renault drivers are going to be using special helmets for the 1000th race and I'd wish they' keep them, especially Ricciardo's. I especially enjoy the electric taped-on sponsor and the stone chips.

I lived in Korea several years and frequently went to China and Japan and yes, thats true. When you land you can also see the several layers of different polution you dive trough.

That's absolutely the greatest hommage to Renault's F1 heritage that I could possibly imagine! That's beyond brilliant! Duct-tape and pre-scratched/damaged helmet!

Bravo, Renault, bravo!

would be great for F1 if they did a sort of a throwback race displaying old logos and liveries, with drivers putting their helmets into an old design or using another from a legend. Could be great to promote, specially if they do it in Silverstone or Monaco

Yep, its weird, you can actually see the layer of pollution. A greyish mix below you to bright blue above, then about an hour into the flight the whole sky becomes blue. It is super depressing when you go the other direction.

Alonso did for his final race last year. Otherwise the only other one that comes to mind is the movie promotions Red Bull did in their early years at Monaco for Star Wars and Oceans 12.

RB also did it for Coulthard for his final race. Out on the first lap though wasn't he?
