No. He was shit. Plain and simple.

What can you expect from a man who has been nearly a decade away from the highest level of motorsports and comes back crippled, driving the absolutely worst car in a grid against new generation's one of finest? The fact that Kubica was able to even do such comeback is a story of itself. The results were par with Michael Schumacher's comeback. It was never going to be a Cinderella story, not like the first three Rocky movies. Don't hate Robert for not delivering that, because life is rarely making miracles possible. That's why they are called miracles. Kudos for Kubica for trying the impossible.

I'm a Kubica fan. He was my favorite driver along with Hamilton back in 06-10.

He shouldn't have come back. He didn't have the fine motor control needed. Williams just love doing these one season show pony drives - Zanardi, Wurz, Kubica.

The 2 biggest keys to 2021 will be how RBR-Honda will perform and if Mercedes keeps the team going.

If RBR-Honda fails to deliver, Max will be looking elsewhere. Potentially triggering big shifts
If Mercedes sells the team (potentially to Penske) I can see Hamilton move to Ferrari.

I recall Hamilton making a big deal of the negotiation for the extension of his deal with Mercedes while Toto saying that renewing with Lewis is Mercedes highest priority right now. The fact this negotiation doesn't look as easy as it seems makes me wonder there is something under the surface.

And I do believe Hamilton fears to engage his future to a team that isn't exactly engaged to Formula 1.

No hate here. Just facts. I was a huge Kubica fan and bummed that he never got to be what he should have. But his driving went pretty much as I expected. The sad reality is that he isn't up to F1 standard anymore, his physical limitations and massive time away have proven that. I wasn't expecting the Williams to be so horrendously bad though, and I actually think this papered over his limitations more. I feel that he would have been exposed even more if the car was halfway decent.
Was a great story, but highly predictable. But as you said, Kudos for him in trying though. A great great effort that I thought would never happen.

Well it wasn't just his limitations brought on by the injury, it's that he never did all that much racing between his accident and F1 comeback.

Doubtful. Pretty sure it's just Hamilton trying to drive up his offer from Mercedes.

I think EAS is spot on. I don't see Mercedes commiting to F1 for the long run.

With companies like VW, pulling any factory support for motorsport series that have any sort of combustion engines, I can see other manufacturers following suit. They'll all commit to FE and any other future electric series that may come up.

I think in the future, we would end up in F1 with a bunch of independent engine builders, and Ferrari. Ferrari, specially now that they are partly US-owned, they won't give up on them petrolz.

Found an interesting thing on Reddit (rare I know)

https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comme ... iil_kvyat/

In short. WADA is banning Russia for 4 years. FIA supports WADA. Therefor F1 is major sporting event. Therefor Kvyat could potentially enter the 2020 season a driver with a Neutral nationality.

It be interesting to see how this pans out eventually. In a few years this would be an interesting trivia question: What driver drove under a Neutral nationality in F1?

It is F1 we are talking about here. Don't hold your breath, they are beholden to the almighty $$$ and good ol' Vlad might have a quite whisper into Mr Potato Head's ear.

maybe, that complex was built over a huge money doping haha

Kvyat is now married with Kelly Piquet, maybe he could borrow one of the nationalities that she has

Bertrand Gachot raced under French, Belgian, Luxemburg and even European licence. Not all in F1, some only in F3000.

I have bought a book about Ayrton Senna (Ayrton Senna - All His Races), which made me look closer to the F1 results of his time. I have only been following F1 closely since 1994-1995 so not an expert of F1 of the 80's and early 90's.

I just noticed that in 1989, Gerhard Berger in Ferrari retired in the first 10 races (and missed Monaco because of his crash at Imola), so he only scored points in the 12th race of the season. THAT must have been frustrating. Especially since his team mate Mansell already scored 6 podium finishes by that time.

if a Ferrari driver DNF the first 10 races of the season today everyone would be wanting him to be dropped out of the team

Ferrari in 1989 had a 100% podium record, when they finished a race.

I think most of it was technical, the car was far from reliable. I think not the driver but half the staff would be fired.
But can you imagine, driving a Ferrari and often qualify in the top 4, and still have zero points by the time you go to the Japanese GP...
