Campos is involved and we know how that ended last time.

The last time it ended because the FIA promised a budget cap which never materialized, at which time it was too late for the new teams to back out as they already had entries confirmed via the official FIA process. But yeah, let's blame Campos.

I'll put my cynicism hat down for a moment. This sounds good. Fingers crossed

Also, is this where the Russian GP's supposed to be going once Sochi is bulldozed? https://www.motorsportweek.com/news/id/24684

From my memory it wasnt really budget-cap related. Just budget in general. He already had problems paying Dallara $7 million.

Personally I think we're way closer to losing a team or two than gaining one

But who knows, someone else might go bankrupt before 2021 allowing Campos to come in dirt cheap.

Still waiting on that Arab Mclaren B-team based in Abu Dhabi though :whistling:

F1 is headed by a bunch of wankers, they should allow more teams like in the late 80's disregarding their past

so then we will see a bunch of teams owned by russian mobsters, and middle east governments doing their own toyota-like ventures. A shitload of money for little results

How hard is it, to just let anyone with a legal car try and qualify for races?

There are a huge amount of previous season equipment just gathering dust, that can be bought and run by small teams. And I'm talking cars and powertrains.

This Ivy League crap is bullshit.

It's more about willingness than about how hard it is. The several amateur teams that came up in the late 80's and early 90's made FIA more selective. They decided to ask a deposit check of $40 million for every potential new entrant so that they didn't have to see the likes of Life, Andrea Moda or Bravo GP again.

It's crazy to think that we no longer have Bernie or Mosley, but the new owners and FIA keep this same mentality. And it's even more crazy to think the people who are willing to enter right now - as of this Campos project and Panthera - are experienced people in the motorsport business. Adrian Campos and Benjamin Durant are not welcome, but a shady investment fund like Genii or Daddy Stroll are welcome. Which is a shame.

I don't get how is that a problem. We need to look at this from a sporting point of view.

If they can lap within 107% of the fastest car, then let them have it.

They can still have 20-22 full time entrants, but extend to 24 or 26 grid slots, and have a 1 hour pre-qualifying on Thrusday. No need for fancy garages, just standard ones (like what they had for F1 Experiences), and those who qualify can use it for the rest of the weekend.

This sounds pretty grim for Williams. Can't remember hearing of any teams deliberately parking cars to stop them getting damaged. Either they're really fucking over Kubica or they have no cash left

I can't remember another situation in which a team told a driver to park a car like that. Which could be a sign of how screwed is Williams.

But I remember Haas this year or last year in Canada being short of spare parts and asking drivers to not push so hard in practice sessions.

Maybe they just redirected most of their resources to the design and development of next year's car, considering they have nothing to fight for this season.

I too would've gone "fuck it" and stop making spare parts for that dog of a car. They probably have just enough left, to finish the season.

I remember reading about teams using parts so old that could malfunction and cause serious incidents. That happened at Onyx after the moneytron debacle

Kamui Kobayashi also complained of something like that at Caterham

thats pretty much a slap in the face to these new potential teams who probably had informal initial discussions.

F1 needs to stop being so elite.
