That was a completely amateurish performance by Ferrari all around. Embarrassing calls on the pitwall and silly errors by both drivers knowing the kerbs were damp. That Q3 was basically Ferrari's second half of a season in a nutshell. Totally outclassed by the Mercedes + Hamilton juggernaut.

The management structure at Ferrari in Vettel's era is totally different to that of Alonso. To be fair to Alonso, he dragged lesser Ferrari equipment into championship contention whereas Vettel over the past two seasons has been given championship winning equipment and yet squander his opportunities. Two different scenarios with the only similarity being team and driver eventually losing patience with each other.

One thing that Brundle has been talking about in recent races is that Vettel is trying to manage all aspects of strategy, etc... from the cockpit rather than trust the team to do their job. At the same time the team have been allowing Vettel to control these aspects. You have to wonder which part of the (pantomime) horse is truly in charge.

Really, why? In 2016 they were poor, yet in 2017 and this season they’ve been equals to Mercedes. Today was a mess up but a rarity. The exception being Monza during Q3 and at the start of the race.

Sky were just showing Vettel's OnBoard from his fastest Q3 lap & he picked up a ton of understeer at Dunlop, Had to lift off the throttle but ran up the outside kerb & came fairly close to running off like Ericsson did.


Sky's feature on OnBoard cameras was short but cool. Said that every car will carry a driver facing camera next year & that a visor-cam is something there working on.

So, we have had:

Ericsson crashing
Ferrari screwing up
Verstappen doing something stupid
Magnussen being a dick with dangerous driving

Typical average race

In 70 minutes we'll see a dominant victory from Hamilton, and post race interview with him saying "what a race, what a weekend" and making it sound like it was difficult.
