Hungaroring

f1.com wrote:
Hungary first hosted a Grand Prix in the 1930s, but following the Second World War and the building of the Iron Curtain it was not until the 1960s that motorsport began to find a place in the country.

At the start of the 1980s there was a general wish for a Grand Prix to be held behind the Iron Curtain and negotiations took place with the Soviet Union with a view to a race being held in Moscow. In the summer of 1983 however, the attention of the Formula One decision makers turned away from Moscow and towards Budapest in Hungary, whose national sporting authority was keen to put the country back on the map of global motorsport.

At first a street race through Budapest was suggested, but in the end the decision was taken to build a brand new circuit in a valley 19 kilometres outside Budapest.

The valley provided natural vantage points for spectators and in 1985 work began on the Hungaroring. The track opened in 1986 and it held its first Formula One event in August that year. It was a huge success and almost 200,000 fans showed up.

Although tight and twisty, the circuit has been known to throw up some great races, the most memorable being Thierry Boutsen's win in 1990, beating Ayrton Senna by 0.3 seconds, and of course the 1997 race where Damon Hill in the Arrows sensationally passed Michael Schumacher's Ferrari only to be denied the win by mechanical failure on the very last lap.

This track has been giving us some good races in the last few years. Not a certain borefest at all.

This season's surprisingly frequent occurrence of late-race Mercedes strategy fails or Vettel driving fails will probably make this another race I watch to the end even if it's a snoozer.

Ferrari and Red Bull should beat Mercedes here.

if Ricciardo manages to avoid mechanical issues, he's one of the favorites

Red Bull have been making noises about being locked on for this race victory for most of the season

The big question is if Danny Ricciardo has any issues carrying over from his retirement in Germany

Stunning city, abhorrent track. It really is a miracle that this race has been on the calendar unbroken for over 30 years.

some very boring races on this track, but all in all usually for various reasons it gives us a lot to talk about.

And IMHO this track has seen the best overtaking ever in the history of F1. Piquet vs Senna in the very first race.

Hill vs Micheal Schumacher wasn't bad here either

And I personally love the outside turn 2 into turn 3 move that we've seen Lewis do in 2013 and Riccardo master in 2014 too

And my favourite, and by far the most underrated:

(it only happens at about 1:45 but the entire onboard is cool ;) )

And here's some more:

Hopefully a repeat of 2014 if it rains, if not then a 2015 would be good too

Yeah Hungary got good when they slashed the downforce (even passes in 2010, wasn't there MICHEAL! :whistling: ) but I don't think those kind of scraps are possible since 2017

But then we might have one of the top drivers start at the back again. If we get through all the practices with no-one crashing/having a failure of some kind, we may be stuck with a 1 stop race with Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes (in that order) finishing exactly where they qualify.

Some of the bustiest grid girls F1 has ever known have graced the grid at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Shame we won't be seeing them, at least this year.

I've always liked this track though. It has a really nice flow to it.

Renault is reportedly under fire from the Red Bull Formula One team, over claims it mismanaged Daniel Ricciardo’s engine upgrade at the German Grand Prix.
Ricciardo was forced to start from the back of the grid for the Hockenheim race, after engine supplier Renault introduced three new components to his power unit, but failed to upgrade the remaining three.
Replacing the remaining three components later in the season will then require Ricciardo to take another round of grid penalties. Had they been taken at Hockenheim there would have been no additional punishment.

Renault to Red Bull...eat a bag of dicks.

I feel this is more Renault being a bunch of dicks because Red Bull left them for Honda.

No surprise there, I expected this to happen once the Honda news was confirmed.

After the way Horner and crew has treated Renault for the past few years, this is karma.

It's a fun track to drive in the video games...No matter the game, platform, wheel, keyboard or joystick, I've never managed to master the chicane and the end of the esses.

Last two years I was there at the track, but year ago the Lucifer heat wave made me to decide to stay home this year, the heat was just too much. Now the heat wave is here. :slaphead:
