The race would've ended behind the SC if it had rained like this during the race anyway. Anything more than a moist track is intolerable to modern F1.

posted a 2016 FIA report on a penalty for pit entrance violation so things could be changing soon

IIRC it was a 5 second time penalty they imposed in that instance? So if they stay consistent then at least it would rightfully promote BOT to P1. Was surprised to see how compliant he was when the hammer came down, didn't even given him 1 full lap to fight for the lead.

An amazing win by Hamilton considering he was driving with four rats strapped to his head.

A bad race....

Until the rain.

Then F1 proves that because it has so few wet races, even the threat of it turns them from cautious, conservative race strategists to drunken gorillas at the zoo flinging everything everywhere and hoping some of it sticks

You know it's a crazy race when Mercedes look to be making sensible strategy decisions

And tbh, 14th to 1st is a pretty amazing result no matter who you are or how it is achieved.
This'll go down as one of Lewis' best performances and the majority of the work was done in the dry where he somehow managed to be on pace while conserving his tyres.
Maybe he's been taking lessons from Scott Dixon.

And it looks like he's destined to always be fighting for the title with a German driver who is terrible in wet conditions.
If there's any more wet racing in 2018 (lololo, we've had our allocation for this year), then Vettel might as well just hand the victory to Lewis as soon as the rain falls.

The weird thing is, F1 2018 fundamentally could've been one of the worst seasons in history, overtaking wise, but it keeps having it's arse saved by Safety cars, first turn incidents that don't knock out the big contenders, reliability issues meaning fast cars have to start from the back or, in todays case, rain.
You keep getting Lucky 2018, and compared to the alternative (us bitching about processions), I hope it continues ;)

I clearly did not read thoroughly enough!

FIA International Sporting Code, Appendix L, Chapter 4, Article 4 d) wrote:
Except in cases of force majeure (accepted as such by the stewards), the crossing, in any direction, of the line separating the pit entry and the track by a car entering the pit lane is prohibited.

He'll claim force majeure because the track was slippery, completely unaware that the radio message was broadcast to the whole world.

Yep, no way he can claim force majeure, they'll have all the radio chatter and even telemetry.

I'll be amazed if he escapes a penalty, having read the actual rule.

Charlie has told the press the penalty starts at a reprimand and goes up from there. Who is on the stewards panel and how big are their balls?

/Edit: Mika Salo, Nish Shetty (Lawyer) and Steve Stringwell ('Chief of Stewards' at Porsche, apparently)

WTF is this? Yes im a Lewis fan, but this would be something like Spa 08, Ham did nothing wrong today. Team says box box and then out out, box box but he already went back..
If he gets a penalty for that i think there are bunch of dickheads sitting in race control.
There have been many times when this happened, i think last one was Hungary last year when one of the Ferraries crossed into the pits too or went out of it, and no penalty was given. This would be very unfair,

What is this Vettel bins it in the wall and we need to punish Lewis cuz he did nothing wrong today.

Former penalties they gave, drivers were warned before the race. This time drivers weren't warned.

But if he gets a penalty it irritates me : They can decide in one minute after the race in Mexico and USA to give a debatable time penalty to Verstappen. But this time they can't decide it in this race, or immediately after the race to make a decision. Now it has to take two hours to make a decision, while the rules are very clear.

Different riders, different rules.

The rules seem to be very clear, for once.

$Generic quote about stewards not applying rules...

I don't think this was last year, but I'd be interested to know more.

Here's some precedent for you:

What's noteworthy here is that Kimi's penalty involved the Pit Entry line, and not the pit entry itself. Most of the other cases I can think of (where drivers have been given specific instructions) refer to the line, not the actual Pit Entry as defined in the regs. On paper, Hamilton's case is more severe.

Maybe Liberty went on to FIA to keep championship closer. If something like that happens it'll be farcical as fuck

They won't need to, Ferrari has the fastest car now, if it stays dry for the rest of the season (which is will, because rain doesn't fall on F1 (lol) ), they'll have a heroic end to the season when they just overturn Mercedes at the last couple of races, instead of the way it was going recently, where it was all smooth for them while Mercedes faultered.

The rules are clear. It will be a farce if Hamilton doesn't get a penalty
