Plus Schumacher didn't quite seem to be pushing to overtake Hakkinen at Suzuka either ;) I still think he drove a half-hearted race there to deny Irvine breaking the Ferrari WDC slump.

Irvine lost that championship all by himself.

Didn't he binned it in FP or QLF?

Not having wheels ready at the Nürburgring didn't help him either.

Irvine was lucky to even have a shot in the first place, with Hakkinen's misfortunes at A1, Hockenheim and other races, and mistakes at Imola and Monza. Of course you need luck sometimes, but Irvine would have been one of the least deserving drivers to win a title, in my opinion.

Off-topic (Yet we are discussing the 99 season, in the 2018 Chinese GP thread), but:

Being a McLaren fan at the time (Mika fan, actually), I didn't noticed it back then, but man, that Ferrari F399 was such a beautiful machine.

IMHO the 99 season as a whole was the best-looking of the entire grooved tyres era.

Unfortunately the Williams and BAR liveries contradict your point.

2000 however... :whistling:

To me, the late 90's best looking car, though:

Arrows A19

1997 has the best looking cars

Underrated looks: 2011

Yes to 1997 cars. The A19 is hugely overrated. It’s merely a narrow version A18 in black livery. I was never a fan. People love it only because of the dull and lazy paint job.

they kept it simple, maybe that's why so many love it

even though my favourite Arrows is the A8 from 1985 with the Delonghi sponsorship and some BMW stripes

The wings were so much better. Simple, not these over sculpted monstrosities...

So... People love it, but you personally don't like it so it is hugely overrated?

My favourite cars are from 1991.

The Jordan 191 is one of the best looking racing cars ever built.
