What was more distressing about this race was how without the random SC it would've been one of the most boring races in history, and even a 2 mile long straight wasn't enough to let the cars overtake each other

I'm not sure. It's all "what if", but I was expecting to see a rematch from Bahrain between Vettel and Bottas, as Vettel was chasing him and probably would be less apathetic than Kimi was.

Quote:
Also Vettel still hasn't learnt from Singapore, blocking Kimi at the start and costing him a place all because Kimi got a better start?
Surely letting Kimi through and letting the team fix the places at the pit stop (as Ferrari definitely would) would've been a smarter option than crowding his own team-mate and costing the team strategy options later on

Agree. I think Vettel would have a much easier life without squeezing Kimi.

Quote:
SC choice was random too, 2 cars off track with marshals on track =VSC.
Small about of Debris in China= SC about a lap later

Charlie Whitin-consistancy again

I found weird the SC in China, but later I thought there was a point. Haas cars in Australia were off the track, while the debris involved marshalls working right on track. Packing the whole field made the job much easier and safer.

Did Ferrari actually have a strategy with Raikkonen? Or were they just going to sacrifice his race to back up Bottas into Vettel?

The only strategy they have is to maximize Vettel's chances. Raikkonen is a pure #2 driver at risk of being sacrificed whenever neccessary.

This. Kimi fans better get used to this. Kimi will be allowed to win when Vettel is champion.

looks like Ferrari is not doing things right, they should tell Kimi "bang wheels with the Mercedes, possibly damaging it and then claim you weren't able to see it"

And the question is: who the f*ck wants to take Kimi's place for next season? I don't see anyone else than Ericsson and Barrichello ready for that.

Kimi actually cut Bottas' tire in T3 braking, you can see sparks flying and later how Valtteri's rear is damaged. Close, but not quite.

Which is very likely given their previous records and how they seem to like each other.

It's worth remembering last year Vettel tied his contract renewal with Ferrari keeping Kimi for this year. I guess he would love to have a guy like Ericsson or Barrichello alongside him for 2019 rather than a hungry Ricciardo or whoever else.

Especially considering how ricciardo blew him away in the same car in 2014 and likely won't take any number 2 driver shit

Does Vettel have a contract for 2019? Perhaps if he wins this year's title he'll retire.

When was the last time Ferrari had two "number 1" drivers? Were Mansell and Prost together at one point?

Mansell and Prost raced together in 1990.

I don't know if '14 counts, as Kimi was by no means a challenge to Alonso. And we had '07 - '09 when both Kimi and Massa had their shots at the WDC.

Seeing as he is Ferrari's reserve/test driver at the moment, Antonio Giovinazzi. :)

I think this was roughly the period between Eddie signing for Ferrari and the moment Eddie first drove a Ferrari. :whistling:

Irv the swerve would tell you that it is common knowledge amongst the paddock that HE was infact a number one driver his whole career...just that the other guys kept beating him somehow.

Was thinking in regards to next years driver's market, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ricciardo stays at Red Bull. I have serious doubts that Force India will even be there next year and with Perez and Ocon available I think one or maybe both of them might end up at a top team being a 'number 2' driver.

I can't believe that Ferrari would allow two top flight drivers dueling it out for the title, and Mercedes would still be wary of how stressful it was with Hamilton and Rosberg going toe to toe. Ocon would fit seamlessly in one of those teams, but maybe Perez's stint at McLaren in 2013 might put one of them off?

I think if Dan's not careful he might end up holding the bag ie. the Ferrari and Merc deals go somewhere else and he gets a slightly better deal from Red Bull but not the killer deal.

Ricciardo is by far a driver that should be number one no matter what, but unfortunatelly both top teams have multi champions that take all the focus to them

about Irvine, there was that short period in 1999 he was the first driver, but Mika Salo was placed as his 2nd driver so it doesn't counts

Schumacher and Irvine were never first driver at the same time. Irvine became first driver when Schumacher decided to stay home for half a season.
In France, Irvine was ordered to let Schumacher through. The point that he lost by that, turned out to cost him the title in the last race.
