That ESPN coverage was atrocious. Pure garbage. The only reason they got the rights was because Liberty is stooged by a bunch of old ESPN hacks. Pure crap. I was wondering how they were going to do it since I guess Sky doesn't have ad breaks in the race but this was preposterously bad.

My expectations with ESPN were met. I watched via the app and not live so I’m not sure if the experience versus TV was different, will find out in the coming races. ESPN offering a direct feed from an advert free broadcast, with the injection of ads was always going to have an unnatural feel. Yet it was still miles better than NBCSN cutting to ads only to come back to 30-60 seconds of unnecessary fluff and / or a promo for an upcoming unrelated event, interspersed with terrible predictable commentary.

2010 was ok but nothing overly special though. Interesting at the start because of the weather which became static once everyone was on dry tyres, with the added interest of Jenson winning after Vettel retired.

The last two decent Melbourne GPs were 2009 and 2003. If someone suggests 2006 then you deserve to be slapped. :p

Yakkitty sax driving standards creating multiple safety cars, Fernando won without much competition, Jenson’s engine blew at the final turn and because of the farcical driving and SCs Ralf Schumacher was able to get onto the podium.

Oh yeaa, I remember Button blowing up and not crossing the line, avoiding the engine change penalty.

But the rest of it is a complete blur

Which was an hilarious strategy considering he and Davidson both retired from the next round in Malaysia of engine failures within the first few laps of the race.

I remember Michael Schumacher losing on the kerb at the start finish line to crash and destroy the car

And Jackie Stewart saying he would kill himself if he kept driving like that.

Well they still won more races than McLaren Mercedes that year :whistling:

Actually it turns out I’m wrong about Malaysia, that happened in 2005.

Hay guise, is TBK passing through a time bubble because I just woke up and read that Ferrari out-strategied mercedes :?

I have a feeling they took Kimi to pits earlier to leave Hamilton with a dilemma. Having to cover either Kimi's undercut or Vettel's overcut and leaving one of these uncovered. And the gamble of keeping Vettel on track paid off with the VSC.

Y no joint? Not the real meme tbh.

My favourite Australian GP at Melbourne is still the first one I watched live: 1999.

2006 was great because things happened. And that will always beat recent races where nothing happens. Deal with it.

As an American, I DO want to hear Leigh Diffey, Steve Matchett, and the old man. I DON'T want to hear Martin Brundle and David Croft. I have a lot of respect for both those gentleman and think they do a fine job, but to me, they sound like this:

Now Murray Walker, on the other hand, was awesome.

At the end of the day, the American style of broadcasting and presenting is different from the British way, the US like the razzmatazz (and theirs nothing wrong with it, I personally like the US way), us Brits are just very vanilla and keep it simple.
