Ric was 1.8 seconds faster than Alonso on the same tyre and with the same engine. Oof.

If they don't introduce some magic update kit before Melbourne, I can see his patience finally running out this year.

Not enough time for a miracle. They've been committed to this chassis design for a few months now. At this rate, surely they will be struggling to make it into Q2. Is Alonso prepared for another year at the back of the grid?

I don't really understand the glee at seeing Mclaren struggle. They are one of the longest running brands in F1, are in the business of fast cars rather than energy drinks or whatever Force India is, and have two of the more likeable and talented drivers on the grid. I can understand frustration that they continue to fail, but taking pleasure from it I just find sadistic. If it's because they overhype their chances and place the blame elsewhere when they underdeliver, show me a team on the grid that doesn't. If Mclaren fails completely it won't be good for F1's future prospects, but that seems to be what people here are increasingly rooting for.

There probably is a syndrom name for this.

When you would like to move on from something, but don't have the balls or decision or willpower to actually do it, so you just keep hoping that something big will happen to justify leaving.

I see people doung this with jobs, relationships, etc just secretly or openly wishing that it completely fails so they can be free from it, instead of taking action and leaving even if it means losing a little in the process.

I agree. I don't understand how racing fans can be happy because of this situation.
