So apparantly there's hardly 0.2 secs between the softest compounds (Hyper - Ultra - Super Soft).

What's the fucking point? I hope there's more of a difference on other tracks.

I'm at a loss with McLaren - the pace is apparently not there, but the team seem quite happy with how things have gone, and Alonso is so calm this time round that he said he doesn't even really need the final day on Friday.

Eric Boullier said McLaren have stuck with the hyper soft because it's the only tyre really suited to the new surface, and they don't see the point in wasting 8-10 laps to warm up the mediums. Seems like the new track surface has really messed up their understanding of the compounds, so hopefully we'll have some fun when they get into the right temperature ranges for them and the other teams discover that the data no longer adds up.

Yeah I read the same thing from Boullier, but some said the medium seems a good tyre, even in these temperatures.

Mclaren have been running solidly this morning, setting their new best on the hyper.

Let's be honest. McLaren's malaise hasn't been just because of Honda. They have been in a downward spiral since 2013 and I would say Hamilton leaving has been the tipping point. Whatever was holding the team together broke after that point. As unbelievable as it seems they haven't been able to recover.

I kinda fear McLaren are pulling a Prost 2001 during pre season testing. I would normally say that I am crazy to think that, that that is just an impossibility...but we have seen just how poorly the team has been for the last 5 years. I genuinely don't know about them anymore.

Maybe the problem with McLaren is the exageration on reliability they set on the cars and lack of testing. Or you take the limits on testing, or you take the limits on parts use

I don't know if people want McLaren to fail so much as people kind of see it as McLaren getting what they deserve after bitching about Honda for so long. They've had just as many problems with the Renault lump as they did with the Honda, meanwhile the Honda's in the back of the TR's just keep trundling along.

Its painfull to see a team like mclaren with such a history struggling like this.
Its getting more obvious that there is something wrong with the team they would like to admit.
The level of unprofessionalism they show here with a team budget of millions is astonishing.

At least now they know it's not the engine. Might take a while to finally make things right, but it has to get better from now on.

Also, really, really happy for Honda.

Honda are the ultimate rope-a-dope team

They were mediocre for so many years, then built this absolutely amazing car in 2008-2009 (which ended up with Ross Brawn's name on it, lets be honest, had they not quit the sport they'd probably be championship winners)

Now they've had a mediocre run with McLaren for all these years now have found their groove.

The 2009 season was about Brawn rather than Honda. Yes Honda built the chassis but it was Brawn’s interpretation of the regulations that identified the DDD area for development. Had the chassis been paired with the Honda engine it’s unlikely the car would have won anything. Putting the Mercedes into it made it a winner.
