I think y'all may be exaggerating the advantage given by a newer engine or by over-running your engine.
It could help getting a slight edge on direct competitors (but in that case you need consistency over all season to beat them in the championship, so you can't afford ruining a whole race, that would offset the one or two positions you'd have gained over them). It will not magically lift your car from mid-pack to race-winning pace, or from back to mid-grid, to warrant using it as a one-off hi-jack.
