Monza is regarded by many as the embodiment of Formula One racing.

Not only is it a fantastic example of a track that combines speed with skill, it also has a heart and soul all of its own. It has seen some of the finest races of all time, but also some of the sport's worst accidents. The names of great drivers and the sounds of engines from years gone by linger in the grand old trees surrounding the track in the royal park.

Work began on the circuit in 1922 and was completed in under six months. After Brooklands in the UK and Indianapolis in the USA, it was the third permanent race track in existence. With a banked oval incorporated into the design of the road racing circuit, the total track length stood at a whopping 10 kilometres.

Formula One racing visited the circuit as part of the inaugural season in 1950, and it has remained a permanent fixture on the calendar ever since.

Over that time, Monza has borne witness to an incredible list of historic moments, famous victories and horrifying crashes. All combine to make it one of the most magical places on the Formula One calendar. For many there is nowhere that encapsulates the sport better than this circuit. The Italians call it 'La Pista Magica', the magic track, a description few would disagree with.

I love Monza, but the current cars are going to be terribly spread out within a couple of laps. At least the support races are usually good.

I look forward to it, simply because of my personal history with Monza. It is a magical place. But I do miss the crazy high kerbs in the chicanes and cars flying over them

funny that I'll probably miss QF saturday because I'll be moving and the last time I missed a qualifying was Austin 2015, that one postponed by bad weather

anyway, better not have qualifying than having a wet sunday with several postponements and then 20 laps behind the safety car. Dry racing is either boring but at least is over after 1h20m

This will probably be a very good race with such low expectations. But really, might be, with not much downforce dependance and a very unique track. I'm curious to see, at least the first 10 laps of the race...... Then I'll probably do something else. The engine sound really scare me away from the race.

Almost certainly a snoozer, but at least this track has atmosphere and soul. Now, if they can just get rid of that dreadful first chicane and do something, anything else with it.

Like just cut through it or go back to the old chicane?

And get rid of that tarmac at Parabolica.

There were plans to alter the first chicane. They wanted to increase the length of the s/f-straight so that the first chicane would have been at the Curva Grande. Does anybody know what happened to the plans?

So, engine spec wise, different rules for different teams: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/13150 ... burn-level

Way to go FIA. Yes I've read it, but it's utterly stupid.

So a rule to even out the engine performance gaps actually increases it by favoring Mercedes? Way to f*cking go FIA!

Now, how about allowing Honda and Renault use more fuel? You know, the two engine manufacturers that you wanted to help with oil burning rule change?

Also, 1,2 l/100km, that's quite a lot of oil burning. Sure F1 engines have high compression ratios and are high performing etc. but that's nearly 4 litres of oil burning in every race and about 10 litres for the weekend. And these engines are here to be more eco than V8s. :slaphead:
