A "hard soft" tyre...that'd mean it's a medium compound?

That's how I define "hard soft" to my romantic interests

There's a pill that can you help with that.

FOM now own the Brunswick archive which gives them access to Pre 1981 content for F1TV (Although not full races):

How many pre-1981 full F1 broadcasts actually exist? ORF was just about the only channel that broadcasted full GP based on the Rindt & Lauda hype but others with English commentary? I bet they're only a handful of them.

Would be funny if they kept the original commercial breaks.

This is ridiculous, we're sitting here by the start finish line and we don't seem to be getting a commentator coming by

Brunswick continued filming races well into the 90s. I once saw their footage of the 1989 French Grand Prix, which had a completely different angle of Gugelmin's flip. Even though the quality was never as good as the official feed, it makes you wonder how much more footage is hidden away. I've no idea if it's possible to access any of their post 1980 films.

In 'upcoming social media fail' news, Dieter Rencken appears to have spotted that many of the accounts and tweets in the 'Fan Messages' gimmick don't actually exist...

I almost feel sorry for Liberty, with this on top of having to endure the sight of pretty women paid to stand on the grid and a race that I have read was so boring that both Alonso and Hamilton dumped on it from a tremendous height. Network television coverage in your prime target market and that is the show you put on. Ouch.

I don't feel sorry for them. Getting rid of grid girls was a completely bonehead move and it will backfire as more sponsors will enforce their promotional models idea. Besides, Sochi will be all out with them as they always love to rub the Westerners the wrong way

With attitudes like these, you realise how big a job liberty has in dragging this sport into the 21st century

I don't really have a fundamental problem with the idea of getting rid of grid girls aside from the principle of not liking 1 old white man (Bratches) deciding what women should and should not be doing to earn money - seems quite Victorian to me, but there you go.

My problem is the hypocrisy - Bratches prattles on about grid girls not fitting Liberty's 'brand values', which is fair enough - but then he continues to accept hosting fees from the governments of Russia, China, Bahrain, Azerbaijan etc. I am sure that there will also be at least one photo from Sochi of V.V. Putin posing with a Liberty honcho, like there was in Bernie's era. Does all of this fit into Bratches' 'brand values'? Or do they just go away once a certain amount of money is thrown their way?

I guess that's what I miss most about Bernie. He never pretended to be anything different than what he was, and as such never insulted anyone's intelligence through pretending. That. and the fact that he dipped into his own pocket to keep Spa on the calendar. Whereas Liberty are ready to swing the axe on Germany and Japan whilst giving sweetheart deals to Miami and Hanoi. So much for protecting traditional venues.

I suppose that's the crux of it. I don't like people pissing down my leg and trying to persuade me that it is raining instead, even more so when they don't really put any effort into the deception.

Speaking of hypocrisy, why were Hamilton and Alonso dumping on this race from a tremendous height but ok with the same procession in 2016, where they happened to have better results?

From reading what the drivers said, it seems that their main gripe was not necessarily the inability to overtake but the fact that they were having to drive at 85%-90% of the car's ability from almost the very start. So it seems there was no opportunity to drive at the limit and at least try to force the driver in front into a mistake.

Which actually matches up quite well with comments they have made in the past - both drivers were vociferous in 2016 after there had been races (the Spanish GP springs to mind) where the same thing was going on.

And then yesterday Brawn makes a clumsy intervention.

Ross Brawn wrote:
However, it's a bit naive to expect lots of duels and passing moves in Monaco!

I suspect the drivers (Alonso has started 16 Monaco GPs, Hamilton 12) are well aware of Monaco's characteristics as a race circuit. No driver is expecting to be able to overtake with impunity at Monaco. But, again, reading from what has been said by Alonso and Hamilton in particular, they would at least like to have the chance to influence the result by pressing the driver ahead into a mistake. And on Sunday they felt they didn't even get that.

That Brawn chooses to ignore this aspect is interesting. Maybe no other tyre manufacturer is interested in the tender for 2020, so Pirelli has to be kept sweet?

Yeah, that's what they're saying. My point is there have been plenty of dull and conservative races won by Hamilton where he had nothing to say about the competition, only how pleased he was with his performance. Last Sunday's race was little different from Monaco 2016 except for the presence of rain, which made everything even slower but shook things up a bit due to wet race lols. Once it dried out, Riccardo in a far faster car was unable to pass Hamilton. No criticism of the racing product from Lewis then.

Yes, I do suppose if you are winning then it makes all the other problems much smaller and easier to ignore.

Although I don't think you can argue that Lewis' frustrations on Sunday are resultant from an afternoon spent up someone's gearbox - FORIX tells me that he spent about 25 laps less than 2 seconds behind the car in front, only 4 of which where he was also less than 1 second behind the car in front. It does sound very similar to the sorts of things he was saying in 2016 before the new package was approved - he was sick of having to nanny the car.

Does he have a contract for next year yet?

ITT we ignore the argument raised because of who raises it.

Sounds like the TBK syndrome all over tbh ;)

Whenever Lewis and Fernando agree on something, you know it must be important :whistling:

if they don't like racing at Monaco, there's always someone willing to take their sits and have a ride there
