Wasn't his though, it was a local mate of Winkelhock IIRC

Reading through the list of red flagged races phil1993 posted, I came across Markus Winkelhock's wikipedia entry and remembered how awesome those first laps were at the Nürburgring back in 2007, when so many drivers went off in the rain and suddenly Winkelhock was leading in his first ever grand prix.

Quote:
Winkelhock started last on the 22-car grid alongside team mate Adrian Sutil. But on the formation lap with the rest of the field already on dry-weather tyres, the team made a last-second decision to call Winkelhock into the pits to switch to intermediate tyres. When pouring rain forced almost all the others to pit at the end of the first lap, Winkelhock was able to move into the lead, passing some cars as they pitted, and even passing Kimi Räikkönen on the track as the Finn tip-toed around to the pits, eventually building a lead of 33 seconds by the end of the second lap. By lap 4 he had a lead of 1:55.714 over Ferrari's Felipe Massa in 2nd place.

I remember how I wondered back then whether he could really win that race! Shame they never gave him a second chance. But then again, he didn't do too well in other series.

that was such a great race <3

Apart from the Audi rings, I don't see much difference with any random RedBull sponsored single seater

Part of me really doesn't want to see Senna racing. He has massive pressure to do well, purely because of his surname, and I think that a lot of people may be disappointed with him should he get a drive as the press (mainly mainstream press) will latch onto his name and expect him to be the second coming.

Obviously, it would be great to see him in a race seat in a team that isn't GP2 pace and I'd love for him to do well but I don't really see it happening tbh.

he isn't a Vettel/Hamilton/Alonso
but I think he could be on the same level as Kovalainen/Sutil/...

That's slightly unfair to Nick, tbh. Why is it the team bosses' responsibility to find sponsorship for a different driver? He (Lopez) signed Nick to drive the car, he chose not to promote Bruno or Romain, and he's trying to undermine him? Poor show.

Too much time spent around 'Lotus' and Dany Bahar.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Winkelhock's car failed very early on. And his chance were basically destroyed when the SC was deployed.

Early forecasts suggest a sunny weekend for the European Grand Prix, perhaps unsurprisingly

Team Lotus will use KERS next season

I'd like to see it, but has he had any Friday running in the car? If not then surely it doesn't make sense, he won't be faster than Nick (well its unlikely) and would need time to get used to a car that can turn and then accelerate without needing an hour or two to get its self straight (this may be an exageration on how poor the hrt was, but it was pretty bad).

Fears have eased that Austin's city council could scupper the 2012 US Grand Prix.

It emerged last week that if council members refuse to sign up as "endorsing municipality", the race organisers' $25 million in annual state funding for the Circuit of the Americas project is in doubt. The council agreement would involve Austin contributing $4 million per year to Texas' Major Events Trust Fund, even though the race organisers are pledging to pick up the bill.

Earlier reports had said the organisers were hoping the $4 million would be funded by taxpayers in subsequent years, but it now emerges that they have agreed to pay up for the full decade of the contract.

"This confirms what I've been saying all along," confirmed Austin mayor Lee Leffingwell. "[Namely] that the city would be contributing no up-front money, and that the city would not be at risk,"

Asked if the agreement will be formalised by the time the council meets next week, he told the Austin Chronicle: "I would hope so."
